Re: Is this forum dying?

I have noticed the reduction in activity, I probably log on at least 3-4 times a week, though I rarely post. I have learned a lot learn a lot from the questions and answers I see presented. I am hopeful it's just a temporary lull. I think we have a lot of good years left here.

best to all

Re: Thanks to all who served

JWAX, thanks for your service! My father was Air Force before I was around, but he always spoke fondly of his time in. Might be interesting to start a thread for former military/intel types to say howdy. I was a USCG boat driver. Had a great time and best of all they pay me to not show up. Again, th...

Thanks to all who served

May you all have a happy (and solemn) Memorial Day. Thanks to all of those who served the cause of peace in a military uniform. Dean H I recall was US Navy, and I'm sure there are a lot more former and current members of our military here on the forum. My thanks go to all of you.

need a -5 volt supply

Newer AT style computer power supplies omit the traditional -5volt function (white wire, I believe it was used to power the old ISA slots). Its getting difficult to find any of the older styles, many advertise the -5 in the specs but when I order one to test I find it's not there. I need the -5 volt...

Re: Home Audio Specs

My office is located in a business park with a shop that specializes in car audio. I was talking to the manager who is very knowlegable and very honest with is customers. He introduced me to a new term about these power output ratings when he said many systems are rated "1200 Watts WLS" I asked him ...

Re: is the gate open or closed

Ceasar, you are correct i think. My gate at my last house had a center point latch like you describe and it worked well. I do think I will still try to develop something that will report the gates position, but frankly I have been to busy working to accomplish much to that end. thanks for the contin...

Re: is the gate open or closed

Ceasar, its a double gate, 2 8 foot sections. Right now I don't secure either section, just wrap a piece of chain around the both of them.

Re: is the gate open or closed

Lots of great stuff to think about here. I will try to answer most of the questions asked so far. I could bury twisted pair but would prefer not to. Its about 800 feet and I'm really trying to avoid actual work. I could easy power a transmitter with a gel cell and solar, and may go that route. The g...

is the gate open or closed

I believe I saw a thread similar to this earlier but failed in locating it. My driveway gate is about 800 feet from my house. Anyone think of a kit or simple rf circuit built or not, to tell me whether the gate is open or closed? The sensor will probably be a magnet or reed switch or something simil...

Re: power transformers

They came out of cabinet X-ray machines which were decommissioned. Hated to just send them off to a scrapper if someone could find a use for them.

power transformers

I have some 10A power transformers removed from equipment that is being de commissioned. They are multi-tap input, from 100 to 250 volts, with a 230 volt 9 amp output. They weigh about 32.5 pounds. I'm not trying trying to make a bunch of money, just trying to avoid recycling if someone has a use fo...

Re: SatNav precision, accuracy or resolution...

Ceasar and Dyarker, thanks for the additional info. I appreciate the info and will file it away in my brain to recall it incorrectly in a few more years. The precision Nav stuff is really world changing technology. In my early days in the Coast Guard would have never even dreamed about this kind of ...

Re: SatNav precision, accuracy or resolution...

Hi Miguel, I can partially answer your question, maybe someone with more technical knowledge can fill in the blanks. This info is anecdotal and may not be 100 percent accurate but I believe its pretty close. When GPS was initially conceived, it was intended for military use only. Primarily US Navy, ...
