Re: Senior Design Project (EE+ME)

What are you into? Computers, cars, stereos, weapons, nature, robots... Obviously, a really cool project will be one that's related to your field of interest.

Re: Ground Loop Isolation

Are you sure the noise is not coming from the computer? If you used the digital output, there would be no noise, but if reverting to the analog output results in noise, it could be because of the computer. You have a good sound card, but maybe you have a flaky power supply? Also, this sounds bizarre...

Re: Where is my stepper motor?

I do have a photo interrupter that I can use, and that will help with item b, but the real problems are a and c. In reality, c is solved by solving a, so that is my true challenge.
The only way to save state between reboots is to store the state in eeprom.
I could save the state again and again ...

Where is my stepper motor?

This pic project is controlling two stepper motors. I'm having a problem knowing how to return "home," for example, with the motor's arm pointing to 12:00. The stepper motors can spin around and around, but sometimes its important to: a. Know where they are at startup b. Return to a "home" position ...

Re: Who's first?

Send me one and I'll see if I can reverse engineer it. When complete I'll e-mail the instructions. No guarantees ;) I'd get to keep the camera, right?
Here's a review of the camera.

Re: analog VU meter project.

vu is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Vanuatu, of course. For example, you can visit http://www.google.vu/ for all of your Vanuatu-searching needs.
I get my info from google ;)

scavenging from a 2.4GHz cordless phone

I have a 2.4GHz cordless phone that I am decommissioning. It works but it has so-so sound quality and the handset's LCD is useless.
I've opened it up and found some interesting stuff. A surprising amount of through-hole components that are easily scavenged, such as a 2 digit 7 segment display with...

Re: keyboard

Wow. Maybe after a generation it will be cheaper.
BTW, I saw that keyboard you [Michael] mentioned at Best Buy. It is sharp, although I feel that ~$60 is still a little too much to pay. (I guess that means I won't be getting an Optimus for a while)

Re: Is there a good digital designer out there

I'm relatively new to this forum and I've gotten the best help when I've been more specific with my questions. As you can see, asking, "is there a good designer" or similar questions get little help.
Saying, "I've got a circuit that is going to do __X__. I've started out with __Y__ and I've run in...

Acceptable Current Consumption in Auto

What do you consider to be an acceptable amount of current for an on-board computer to use in an automotive environment while the car is not running? For example, the computer (pic based) will be sitting around waiting for something of interest to happen (Marvin, the robot from the book Hitchhiker's...

X-Channel Analog-to-Digital Converter

Some of the Pic processors have an X channel 10 bit analog to digital converter, where X may be 7 (for example, the 16F88).
Does this mean that in the case of a 7-channel a/d that it is like having 7 different a/d converters?
The docs say,
<font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, san...
