Standard pen-style is very good. The 'more ergonomic' is a pain, since I'm lefthanded. A shorter distance to the tip could be ok, if the heat aspect is taken care of. It's no use to have short distance and burnt fingers. Some sort of telescopic tip could be an idea, to be used where a longer distanc...

I like your solution Gorgon, but maybe even simpler, would be to break out the line at a conveniant point and drop down to a simple L pad potentiometer mounted at the speakers pulpit. You know, the way they used to do it in the dark ages  Thanks Robert, Yes, I remember the speakers from my sc...

If you want a cheap remote, why not use a LED pointing device and a simple receiver that toggles a flipflop on-off-on ... for each blink. Controlling a relay that insert a resistance in the speaker line.

Philba is correct If you don't drive the motor all the time through this inverter and makes a static switch between backup power and grid power, you'll loose the phase when the grid goes. You then need to stop the motor and restart it again with the backup power, and this time it takes way more than...

Yes, I remember the high voltage demo in Munich. Are they still doing the Faraday demo with a man inside one of the discharge globes/electrodes? I remember they put a 1m2 glass plate between the electrodes and pumped up to over 1MV before the bang. In -74, I was very impressed!!

6.8 - 6.9V fixed constant voltage, would keep your battery top charged at 25 deg. C. If you have higher ambient temperature, you should reduce the voltage some. You can see the table her: http://www.powerstream.com/SLA.htm . You could use a NTC to compensate in the power supply. (Thats what we do in...

The Roman Black will need a rather sharp filter to make the sound good at 1kB/s, since the 'silence' or pause sequences in the sound will have a ripple of 4kHz. This low max frequency will also increase the noise level. I suppose that is why 15625Hz is use to sample the sound, making nearly 2kB/s da...

Hi, Some years ago I was involved in a design of an alarm announcement system with a number of stored messages. It was built around a speech co-processor from DSP Group, Inc, CT8016 and a codec from OKI, MSM7578. This setup could record and playback recorded speech with telephone quality. It could a...

Hi Ajury, If the boy can hear at least one frequency range, my idea would be to make this sound just one frequency, but interrupted with a faster rate for the rising frequency (of today), and a slower rate with the falling frequency (of today). just a slower or faster beeping of one frequency. I wou...

I've one example of this (Beside all the mobile phones I've had) In -94 I bought a Siemens Gigaset Wireless Phone system. The handset has rechargeable cells. Less than a year after the battery gave up keeping the charge. Instead of buying the same type of cells, I bought some slightly more expensive...
