Re: relay bank needed

I found a bunch of relays/sockets in an old ambulance. Depending on brand, this was a Ford van type, the relay console was located in an compartment above the drivers head. Not an easy find if you don't know this. Wrecking yard owner said county ambulance service won't buy used parts to put on ambul...

Re: Power Inverter

I have one of those 2,000 watt inverters. I sincerely doubt it'll do what they claim, mine is from Homier. Homier is the traveling tool company that used to come around our town about every year or so. They would rent the civic center or the National Guard armory for the weekend. Last I heard they w...

Re: Garage Door Closer Featured in January 2012

[quote="BobCochran13"][size=150][color=#0000FF]I know this is a really late post, but I worked with someone's garage door opener for a while. The unit has a safety device that prevents the door from closing if someone moves into the path of the door. In fact I had to replace the safety device itself...

Here you go. http://www.harborfreight.com/driveway-alert-system-wireless-69590.html It's a self contained ,battery powered motion detector with a beeper alarm. and it's less than $20. A friend just put one in his store to alert him of a customer while he's in the back room. No BB gun, no pepper spra...

I know it's not exactly the same, but fluorescents are like that, they don't like to light up when cold.

Re: alternator question

Does your jeep have a Delco -Remy alternator? If so you might find one from a suv or caddy that has a higher output rating. The amp rating used to be stamped near the tab for the adjusting bolt, not sure any more. Another vehicle to look at is an old ambulance, cop car or other emergency vehicle, th...

Are you using this rf receiver by any chance? http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/FCTN-RLY4-315-2/FCTN-RLY4-315-2-ND/340079 I used one for a motor control project, and the motor was remote mounted, about 10' away. The receiver was 2' from a pwm control board and refused to run properly until I ...

Re: Desoldering Temperature

Another consideration...the newer lead free solder takes a higher temperature.
I usually give my students an old circuit board and have them desolder some of the components to get the feel of how to set the temperature.
