Re: Of some interest!

After reading this ie reminded me of some machines I used to work on at Carrier Air Conditioning. They would pull wire off a spool, cut it to length, strip both ends, and terminate both ends with either the same or different terminals.. I can't remember the name of the machines, but I do remember th...

Have you seen this? While I don't agree with everything he's done, it still works.

Re: Microwave oven transformer... reversed.

One of my students made one of these, he cut the secondary off with a hacksaw being careful not to cut the primary. He wound the secondary with 2 turns of #6 thhn and it worked perfectly for his needs. He had to tie the secondary in place with wire ties to keep it tight with the core.I think the ope...

Re: LED stays on 24/7

"The LEDs can glow with only microamps of current. One message in the linked forum post indicated that just touching some piece of metal to the input of these LED lights can make them glow from close-by AC voltages. The only question I have now is why it's intermittent." You say there is voltage acr...

Re: replacing parts on printed circuit

What kind of soldering iron? How many watts ? Is the tip of the iron clean ? A dirty soldering iron tip will not transfer the heat needed to melt the solder. An adjustable one, with the temp turned way down won't work either. When you try it again, try adding a little new solder to it to help make i...

Re: About imported digital counters.

Last year I bought rf frequency counter from ebay. range is from 30hz to 2.5 Ghz, it also displays PL or DPL tones if any. The device has 1 button on it and comes with no instructions. Just press the button, key up a radio next to it and you have th TX freq with PL/DPL tones, auto shut off. even cam...

We had a lot more traffic when Chris Smith was a member. He would have arguments going on in 2-3 different threads at once. Had to look up his name, saw that he had 4325 posts, he left in '07. That being said, I do not miss him !!

Re: What keeps me up late!

"Side kick: Ever notice the 'soldering experts' on YouTube, they melt and smear. Probably became certified through a training session at Sam's Drywall Finishing School!" I've noticed that also, and when my students see it they want to know why the youtuber can do it that way, and not them. I tell th...

Re: What keeps me up late!

Where I used to work we built large air conditioners. Our specs for the longest read "Length 42' +- 2mm". The bad part was our inspectors were only equipped with 6" dial calipers and a calibrated 16' tape measure. I asked an inspector once how he knew the length was ok, he said if all the covers fit...

Re: About DSL

Had a problem with my phones a few years back, I also have DSL. Phones were dead, no dial tone, but computers worked. Opened interface box and found that I have 2 pairs running to house, one voice, the other data. Called phone co.(we're on a co-op) and they were there within an hour. told him what I...
