How did they do that?

Not sure where to ask this question but maybe you can suggest a better place to post, if not here. I have just received a remarkable piece of technology. Was mailed to me by my health insurance company, Blue Cross, (verified) in an envelope with a letter. Was obviously part of a mass mailing to thei...

Re: low power battery backup

Thanks Steve and Mr. Al.
Yes, I was thinking of putting it together but was hoping there was such a thing already out there in the market place. Would be especially nice if the batteries were rechargeable.

low power battery backup

Haven't been here in a while but I appreciate the new login measures as the spam was really bad when I last visited. Here's the issue. Have a new cordless phone/answer machine. Did not know when I got it that it won't retain the OGM and security settings if the power goes off making it necessary to ...

Re: Call Blocking revisited

I am playing with an audio announcing CID unit (abt $35.00), exploring the possibility of recording it's announcement for delayed playback to the upstairs room with the phones that only ring through on approved callers. The unit I bought has a loud and clear voicing of the phone number. But to voice...

Re: Looking for phone patch

Actually, ltx71cm, you are right. The RS device I have looks like the same thing from the picture, but is designed to turn on a recorder via the remote control jack when the connected phone goes off-hook. But RS also sells the same unit that you linked me which is for both recording and playing back...

Re: Call Blocking revisited

Yes, ltx71cm, we both have the same model in mind. In simplest terms, a box that sits between an answering machine and the house phone (which optionally -and usually- also has an answering machine). On non -ring through calls answer machine #1 catches the call with a message something like “ Sorry y...

Re: Call Blocking revisited

ltx71cm, You have done an excellent job analyzing the logic of the system. A major hurdle, as you pointed out, is having house phones initiate a connection to the outside line. This would suggest the system emulates exactly what the telco does to detect off-hook condition, a secondary current loop t...

Re: Looking for phone patch

I have something like that from Radio Shack. It is used for recording both sides of a phone conversation but it does not allow you to inject audio back into the phone line from an external audio source as an audio patch does.

Re: Record-Delay-Play sound-bytes

Thanks Hacklesup. Here'r the bigger picture. I have posted another topic regarding filtering junk phone calls. Although not a perfect solution - the JF Teck with ring control does almost everything I want. One drawback is that it does not pass CID info to the house phones. My idea is to have a voici...

Looking for phone patch

I am looking for an assembled phone patch. Although I could build one with a cheap RS transformer and a few parts - probably for less than $10.00, I hate the mechanical part, wiring the parts together with audio and RJ 11 jacks, etc. I see a widely sold model -(ROLLS P19) that is available from vari...

Re: Record-Delay-Play sound-bytes

Making software with a ringbuffer for audio is not so very difficult
It would be for me, Fripster. I'm getting too old to think and would prefer an off-the-shelf solution. Seems like it would be a neat project for a N & V article.

Thanks anyway.

Re: Record-Delay-Play sound-bytes

Thanks Fripster, Of all the places I should have looked at first, I found pretty much what I can use at Radio Shack. The module records 20 seconds of audio, pushbutton controlled - about ten bucks. I would prefer an audio delay solution, much like broadcasters use to avoid embarrassing moments durin...

Record-Delay-Play sound-bytes

I am looking for a kit or assembled device that would delay playback of an audio input signal for approximately 10 seconds. Quality is not important. Alternatively, a device that would record approximately 10 seconds when triggered and play back immediately after, then reset to repeat the process. I...

Re: Call Blocking revisited

The calls have gotten worse, mostly political messages and surveys. I am on the do-not-call list but it doesn’t seem to cover these types of calls. In my earlier posting I described what I want in a call blocker and I think I found a possible solution. The call blocker made (or distributed) by JF Te...

Call Blocking revisited

I am back to grousing about calls from politicians wanting my vote, charities, wanting my money, and surveyors wasting my time. And, I’m thinking about the kind of call blocker I would use. My specs are simple. 1. Would use two answer machines, one for intercepted trash calls, the other, my regular ...
