Re: National Debt

well- sort of... The Bklyn Br. was (originally) a toll bridge - so someone paid for it. Houses aren't infrastructure (infra = BETWEEN; infrastructure is between buildings: roads, pipes, electric grid... Buildings don't count) Planes are Capital goods... (airports: not)
If you can't even define you...

Re: Geothermal heating

Chris- I'm not (!) disputing you... Sofaspud was challenging that it could be done so simply...
While I agree it can, I was a bit wrong on procedure. Seemed it always worked for me, though. I never had a critical need for the trick, so off by 20 degrees was always good enough for my uses.
BTW.....

National debt, Chris, is the Nation's debt... what the Treasury owes... Savings bonds and other borrowings.
What you refer to, internationally, is the Balance of payments... the part that undermines your currency.
What YOU can do (if you act fast) is declare bankruptcy. Your credit cards are NOT...

No- infrastructure is NOT a waste... but Wasteful highways are...
When the highways are already crowded, rails removes more cars from the road (given.. the ticket must be priced right). When you double the size of a highway for Peak traffic, you Don't get double the volume efficiently handled.. y...

Re: Solar panel sleight of hand

Whaaat?? Trade deficit paid by subsidies??? No.. it's paid by a devalued dollar (Nixon did that in 1970... Dollar went from DM4.00 to DM3.00... later sank to DM1.60... then the Euro was started at $1.18= e1.00... now $1.28= e1.00)
Increase in the budget is paid either by debt (and resulting intere...

Chris- Makework programs are like overpriced highway projects... just wasteful. So- let's be careful how we "create" these new jobs.
(Seems Detroit complained of all the jobs that would be lost because of pollution controls... discounting catalytic converter production, computer controls, sensors,...

That nothwithstanding, the only catastrophic failures I can imagine is storm damage or falling tree limbs.
(I doubt anyone would steal solar panels without knowing how to use 'em... and serial #s do well on car parts... why not solar?)
All else can be established through 'service live' analyses...
