Re: Flourescent bulbs

Thanks guys... lots of direction here. As further background, If I recall, the 'hum' that was caused by my old fluorescent was recognized by my dad (an audio/electronics engineer) as 60Hz... so his solution was a Cap across the ends of the bulb. [referring to Edd's schematic] from 1 end of the AC po...

Re: Flourescent bulbs

Nice info, Edd... and good thread, guys...
Next related Question: RF interference often comes from ballasts (especially the old types) that can be cured with an R/C circuit (for the novice, add a resistor and capacitor). How do you cure RF noise with electronic ballasts... more specifically, do yo...

Re: foreign volts

thanks for the info-- Point taken. But thinking a bit about that, it's INTENDED for a shaver... can be used to charge batteries... or?? Just not for that heating element!
Still- one must check with the hotel to KNOW what they have.

Re: foreign volts

If I recall, Radio Shack carries them at the usual too-high price. But they work for most things... watch your motors and heaters - select the ones you carry carefully.
Many things are No longer required... many hotels provide 110V [US style] outlets (not the old hotels!) and many provide hair dri...

to Jolly Roger --- Is that cost per gal (of ethanol) still true with the rising cost of Oil? Does this process exist in a non-oil environment - or is it (oil) used as a heat source or catalyst?
What we forget is the widespread USE of oil-based products... it is the source of most chlorine (your wa...

Re: Making hydrogen from water & DC

Ethanol is a 'promise' full of unspoken drawbacks: ... the fertilizers to grow such crops rely on the petrochemicals as feedstock. ... the farmland used to grow these crops pollutes the water downstream. (This also includes topsoil runoff). ... the tailpipe pollutants (in quantities) are not suffici...

Re: Determing charger required

Take the battery you have, if possible, for connections and dimensions. Find the battery specs, primarily Volts and Amps, (should be on it), and take a trip to Toys-R-Us... they have a wide selection of batteries for replacement in those things... with chargers (or chargers alone).
Expect $80-100...
