Re: Outlook Express / PDF's

"This seems to have started after the upgrade (downgrade?) to Adobe XI" I get a lot of alerts from Adobe for upgrades and every time I down load them, the program seems to perform worse. I never see any improvement in it at least for the way I use it. Maybe delete the version you have and down load ...

Re: Kill-A-Watt 240 VAC

John I too would love to have a "240" version of the kilowatt especially since I have an all electric home (w/baseboard heat). I have given thought from time to time about hacking the one I have but as yet have not followed thru on it. Possible trouble with Euro version: 50 Hz frequency (may or may ...

Re: ASTC Digital Tuner quirks......

Purchased a 42" LG tv a few months ago and like you because my 20 year old Hitachi tv had a dying CRT.It has some odd quirks occasionally but can be cured by pushing a few remote buttons. This is my first experience with the new flat screen TV and here is "My Take" on it. The channel change is so sl...

Re: My Christmas Can Light Dimmer

Lemp I have not read this article and from what you posted it sure sounds like its full of "traps". But as to lawyers intervention, I don't think that would apply in these situations. I may be wrong on this, but from what I have always gathered Unless it was an item that involved a money transaction...

Re: opto isolator question...

I think you are OK. Zero crossing types are only not permitted in phase control circuits such as light dimmers, etc.

Re: Help with analog VU meters

Liked your link (Orban). Although I didn't read the whole paper in detail, there were quite a few chapters that were very interesting and informative. Mr. Orban was quite the man!

Re: looking for a phone ringer ic - mc34017-1p or 34017-1p

Not sure of the light intensity you require. when I worked in R&D, all the engineering offices surronded the main lab floor and had large windows facing the floor. At that time we simply wired a large base neon glow bulb across the phone line and then a skinny two conductor concealed lead to the off...

Re: LT1083CP Question

Actually you can reduce heat sink size required. At lower voltages with the introduction of a few power resistors and a 2 or 3 position wafer switch. These would be placed in series with the input to the regulator. Have done this several times in the past , but I cannot tell you the optimum setup an...

Re: LT1083CP Question

Output--120 ohms in series with 1K pot to ground. Junction of 120 ohm and pot to Adj. terminal for 0 to approx. 12 VDC. Actually zero can only be obtained by taking low end of pot to a small neg. voltage (-1.25V). This is only the skinny as there are many more parameters to consider and you need to ...

Re: What will fail in this circuit ?

If the weakest LED goes open; would the Vr be fatal ?

I would say no for this reason-An open circuit is just that. With no current flowing, there is no voltage across the rest of the string, hence no reverse voltage.

Re: Diode ORing voltage measurement

All modern day DMMs have at least 10 meg input inpedance and some have much higher. It is not uncommon to measure a voltage of some sort in an apparent "open circuit", if the scenario is right. That being that even a small amount of leakage current in those diodes will develop some voltage across th...

Re: BURGESS BUG KILLER 960

EDD- I have a question. Having used spot welders many times for chassis construction, they had one critical point. That was the tip temperature. This was an adjustment on the machine itself and was quite critical and sensitive as to type of metal, thickness and heat conductivity. It took some jugglin...
