A DELUXE TEST BENCH VARIAC in NUTS AND VOLTS- June,2008

Really enjoyed Robert Reed's article on variacs. I wondered if someone could tell me more about the use of capacitor C12 and how it lowers the voltage from 120 volts ac to 9.7 volts ac, what factors influence the voltage drop, can a conventional cap be used or is an ac rated cap necessary, and how m...

LED'S as indicator lights on 110 volt a.c.

Thanks for the helpful replies to my query. What is the electrical differences between an led and a high brightness led? Are there any markings or physical characteristics that would help in distinguishing an led from a high brightness led? Thanks Paul

LED'S as indicator lights on 110 volt a.c.

Is it possible to use leds as indicator lights on ll0 volt a.c. circuits without rectification? I believe I saw some reference to this in a NUTS AND VOLTS Magazine but can't find it. If so how would you do it? Thanks Paul

led primer

Can someone suggest a reference regarding the various types of leds and and their current and voltage requirements? I've seen advertisements offering leds with various degrees of brightness and sizes and wonder if they have different requirements? Thanks Paul

Blinking leds

Thanks for the replies. I would rather build than buy and went to the site suggested. They have a schematic and I will follow that. Paul

alliance model u-100 controller and rotor hookup

I have an alliance model u-100 controller but am not sure if the alliance rotor I have is for this controller--as no markings on rotor. I looked inside the rotor case and found a wire wound device encircling the rotor shaft. There are no numbers or markings on the rotor terminals but the controller ...

Re: circuit to energize a relay for 30 seconds

Thanks to all of those who responded. My idea was to turn the circulator pump on just before using the hot water in order to conserve the pump, electricity, and the water heater. The temperature controlled circuit is a good idea that I had not considered. Presently I turn on the pump and try the wat...

circuit to energize a relay for 30 seconds

I live on a farm and have to watch our water(well)use. I put a manually operated water circulator in our hot water line and it takes approximately 30 seconds to get hot water to the faucet. I would like to construct a circuit that I could activate that would turn the circulator pump on for 30 second...

led indicator light

I just attached two halogen driving lights below the front bumper of my ford ranger. I would like to wire in an led indicator light at the switch in the cab so I can tell when these lights are on. Can someone refer me to a source for this circuit. Thanks Paul
