Re: battery monitoring with opto-isolators

I must be asking something that's either too obvious to merit an answer or I'm asking it in a way that doesn't make sense. Sorry about that, let me try again. In MrAl's diagram, there is one data pin that is connected between the master and the slave PICs for each battery with an opto-isolator betwe...

Re: battery monitoring with opto-isolators

We're going to need to exchange a few bits between the slaves and the master via the opto-isolator to communicate a voltage value. I was just wondering what protocol you had in mind for doing so.

Re: battery monitoring with opto-isolators

MrAl,

What would your single-pin comm protocol look like here? Don't need the assembler, napkin-style pseudo-code would be great. You've got me curious now...and I've got enough PICs laying around to prototype this.

Re: battery monitoring with opto-isolators

Ron, Many PIC flavors come with at least one ADC, two or more is common. With a voltage divider to turn your 8v-16v reading into the 0-5v range the PIC will be looking for, the voltage measuring may be a slam-dunk. Add something like an Allegro ACS758 (link: Allegro Site) (selection depends on the c...

Re: virus software

I second everything SETEC said with an additional plug for: bleepingcomputer.com. I had a nasty rootkit find it's way onto my machine a few months and their forums saved me when nothing else would.

Re: Linux question

Kevin,

I'm running Kamikaze and haven't seen what you're seeing. However, I haven't yet played with bandwidth.conf (not even sure if it is available in Kamikaze or White Russian).

I've gotten really quick responses from the OpenWrt forums, see what the posters there think.

Re: Buy steppers in the SF Bay Area?

Ok, so we've got one suggestion about a vendor in China. That's close to the SFBay, NOT!

Any non-spammers with suggestions?

Buy steppers in the SF Bay Area?

I'm looking for 3 ~900 oz/in NEMA 34 steppers. Anyone know of a good vendor here in the SF Bay?

I've been using GoDaddy for 7 or 8 years now. No problems. They're big, but still competitive. Good luck!

Re: Changing my religion- to linux

MrAl, It looks as though you'll need to install a separate video driver. Your card isn't supported yet in the distro. You can download it from Via here: http://linux.via.com.tw/support/downloadFiles.action I haven't done it in a while, but I believe there's a point in the Ubuntu setup where you can ...

Re: how to block e-mail domains ?

Dac, I could send you an email with a reply-to of b.[email protected].gov from my own mail server, I don't actually need to own the domain to do so. Likely, those emails aren't coming from a gmail email server at all or they are and the accounts have been set up by someone with sinister intent. If yo...

Re: lawn mower IGN coils

I wonder if pulsing a big electromagnet in close proximity to the coil would do the trick? If it did, It would be less dangerous than spinning something would be.

Re: Vista 64 and MPLAB IDE/PicPro Demo

Bruce, I Googled around and it appears others are having issues similar to yours with your compiler. Keep your eyes peeled in the PIC-oriented forums and hopefully someone will post a workaround. I don't have a 64-bit Vista installation to play with or I'd try to see if I could duplicate your issue....

Re: Uploading/viewing movies on my camera

I would be surprised if you were able to get a movie that wasn't shot with the camera to playback on it. There's a limited amount of space in the camera's firmware for a codec to run, I'll bet it's REALLY finicky. It will be quite the accomplishment, I think, to get it working however and will certa...

Re: Changing my religion- to linux

Rodney,

Which CAD programs? I know BRL-CAD runs on Linux, and there are some other open-source CAD apps that run exclusively in Linux, are you using (or trying to use) one of them? Running a Windows flavor on CAD in Wine might be tricky, is that what you're doing?

Just curious.
