Re: Easy to Use Home MP3 Player for Older Person

Most of the MP3 readers I see are on Banggood or AliExpress. They are dirt cheap, accept SD cards and require a minimal amount of additional hookup to work. Here's one: https://m.banggood.com/2_1-Bluetooth-Car-Audio-Decoder-Board-MP3-Player-Decoding-Module-with-USB-Aux-DIY-for-Amplifiers-Board-Home-...

Re: what is this thing ? Westinghouse LMT-100 Load controller

I didn't think about it back then, but it looks like a carrier controlled off-peak meter. I have an old off-peak meter outside of my house that I need to , at some point, have removed, and it uses a mechanical timer to switch the power on and off to the meter. This looks like the updated version cir...

Re: Easy to Use Home MP3 Player for Older Person

Does her computer have Windows Media Player? It's really easy to use. You can make up playlists like the CD player and do the same thing. I do believe that if you have the playlist saved and the file extension (I think it's .PLS) associated to the program, you could make a shortcut to it on the desk...

Re: Counter Cunundrum

So 2 "new" modules and counters. Anything else from the machine you took to the shop? Sounds like something else is "worn", maybe a weak transistor or some sketchy wiring / bad ground issues that are Band-Aided with the cap in place. As you say, it makes no sense as to why something would not work w...

I suggest reading here, then asking a question about it there as well.

Re: SPAM Attack

Thanks Sean.

Sneaky little buggers must know when the holidays are and people'd be offline. I usually check in at least once a day, that's why I reported it.

Only upside to spam is it keeps the forum active. :D

Re: Happy Thanksgiving

Smoked turkey over real fire. That's been my purview for the last ?8? years. Brine it first (Alton Brown's original brine recipe) and then America's Test Kitchen / Cook's Country version of smoking on the charcoal grill. 18 pounder is usually done in about 2 hours, plus 1/2 hour rest. I didn't cook ...

Thanksgiving 2019

I am thankful that I am still here on this green earth.
I am thankful that my family is with me.
I am thankful for my relative health.
I am thankful for my friends.
I am thankful for all of you.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Did that ever work?
If it did, what was your final design?

Re: laser level offset measurement

Land surveying is my profession. What you sound like you are saying is that you want to use a contractor's rotating laser level, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Johnson-Level-Tool-99-005K-Manual-Leveling/dp/B00ME77KH8 and you want to build a logger that can be triggered by the laser in a...

Sounds like a poor design or actual design flaw with said remote. What brand was it, if I may ask?

Re: Self entertaining, entertainment system!

The thing with the Cell ping is that it usually only affects poorly shielded input cables nearby. If the ping would cause interference of the kind that is intimated, there would be serious problems with their FCC compliance, moreso with the TV than the phone. The standard cell ping has been around f...

Re: Voltage spike

You've got AC and an almost direct line from the transformer to the base(s) of the Darlington transistors. When you remove power from the transformer, the collapsing magnetic field(s) can cause a large inductive spike depending where it is on the waveform. If it is at the top of the waveform instead...

Re: Voltage spike

From your description, it sounds like a home-brew power supply. Would you be able to provide at least a partial schematic of the transformer to the initial output stage of the PS? If commercial, a make and model would be helpful. Kind of a shot in the dark without some info, though I have an inkling...
