Thanks Bigglez, I completely forgot about plate size. Another :headslap:! Just being a hobbyist, I look to the books, the web and professionals, such as yourself, to keep me on the straight and narrow regarding electronics rules and laws. While I remember a number of things, time spent between readi...

I'm glad you found an off the shelf solution. I was going to suggest a
project by bodgy, found on his page. I think this would have worked for
your Xmas light setup, but I don't know how much free time you have for
a PIC project. Maybe for next year.

Explained that way, it makes absolute sense. For what is a capacitor but 2 plates separated by some sort of dielectric. And what determines the capacitance? The type of dielectric combined with the distance between the plates. :headslap: So simple! I know, that is oversimplified, but basically that'...

Member's home pages
I am posting this under General as it has nothing specific to do with computers or programming. With that out of the way... I was surfing the memberlist the other day checking out member's home pages to see what interests they had. Many of the links produce 404's, and to those who had Hometown.AOL p...

Hacklesup, I've never experienced this particular behavior, but then I usually click either of the links provided (go to the Forums or see your Post ). I use a either IE6 or IE7 for my internet perusal / enjoyment / annoyance, as the case may be, depending on what computer I am on. I remember readin...

Don't assume they know of this problem or read this forum. Actually, someone over there actually does read and post here. Yes, he is the website guy, but still a part of the team. I guess what I should do (after eliminating the rogue AC input) is set fixed gains on the board for both stages that are high enough, then use the ouput pots to control output levels. Either that or use shielded cable for the offboard pots and shield the enclosure once you have the circuit finished...

At first glance, C8 is backwards. Re-orient so that + is towards V+ from U2. Also, check the orientation of the 10 uF cap at R5 as it also appears backwards. If that doesn't work... What is the power supply? If it is from a wall source, the ripple may be coming from there. To verify, replace the pow...

If you have a video camera or digital still camera, point the remote at the lens. Video / digital cameras are sensitive to infrared and they will show up even on the miniscreen on the device. Cell (camera) phones should be included in this as they are digital also. It is the CCD or CMOS sensor used ...
