Re: Infrared LED's

Chris what about a super short high current pulse to the lasar diode? Can it be made faster than an xenon strobe? How many watt seconds do you think ?

Re: de bounce

consider using a 555 as a one shot. I would typing 555 into google you will probabally get a circut there. You can hook the output of the 555 to a solid state relay to control the load Than take the float switch and use it in the circut to trigger the 555

Re: Electrical Engineering as a College Major and Career

hi Mike; If you want some good hands on electronics, Forrest Mimm's engineering handbook can't be beat. Unfortunitally, it goes for .about 25.00 but it is worth it. After that go for the art of electronics. That will get you a decent underststanding of hardware and introduce you to the wild world of ...

Re: Electret Microphone Element

right.
leave the meter the way it is and switch the meter to a.c. millivolts and it should give you a reading when you tap on it or make a noise.

Re: Electret Microphone Element

You hook the voltage source to the positave and negative leads and take the signal from the ground and through the capacitor to the + lead.It seems to me you are trying to operate it like an old carbon mike button. It won't change voltage like that.

Re: control of AC voltage

if you are you just controlling 100 v0lts into a reistive load where is high voltage involved? if its somewhere in the box I would use an isolation transformer where the variac was and hook an extention cord from that transformer to the variac.

hi Kim.
unless you are dealing with high frequency or power, almost any mosfet with the same channel type should do.

The first thing I would try is a crystal mic if you can get one tied to the input in series with a pot say 1 meg. That might trigger it by itself.

I think you would be wise to consult with a licensed electrician. Anything dealing with 400+ volts at the current being supplied is not amateur electronics.A mistake could take you or your equipment out.

Re: capacitor types

If Im not mistaken there is distortion introduced in a solid state at the lower frequencies when the impedance of the speaker approaches 0.This is true with tube amps also but to a much lesser degree. On the other hand the high frequency response and transient response are better using solid state te...

Re: Animatronics

I think the easiest way to do this would be to buy a model radio control transmitter and reciever. They come equiped with a servo for each channel. You than have pretty strong servos that respond to the position of the control lever on the transmitter.
