Re: Shortwiring AC/DC power adapter

BTW, I've used the light-bulb trick in a professional test fixture. Sensitive amplifier, accidentally drop a power lead on the input and amp is fried. Stuck zener diodes to limit voltage, and bulbs to limit current. At normal conditions bulbs are shorts, and zeners are non-existent. But screw up and...

Re: Shortwiring AC/DC power adapter

You don't hafta use a saw; put one blank edge (between plug & wire) into a bench-vice, and slowly clamp until the seam pops. then pop the other side, then pop the plug side. You should now be able to insert a slotted-screwdriver and pop the rest of the seams. Superglue, or better plastic solvent (go...

Re: LM386

My phone line is fried, always has been. Two different CALL-WAITING-DETECTORS did not detect (had to buy 8 answering machines before I found one that could be accessed remotely).
The "I-Ring" uses a PIC, but also uses an LM567 searching for the single CALL-WAITING "beep"; I interrupted the OC out...

Re: Video Camera Detector Schematic?

Fortunately (that is, fortunately for aesthetics, unfortunately for experimentation), it's rare here to have a movie or play interrupted by cell phones or babies. I've never had a play or movie ruined by cell phones; but there was that howling baby in the movie once. After two MINUTES, I turned arou...

Re: DON'T POST LONG URLs

I'm sorry, Dean; I was using sneaky codes (so you would see the actual command, but the board wouldn't actually DO the command. Probably better to not tell, 'cause then people could bypass filters and stuff.
quote:
I hate com...

Re: binary clock

To do the perimeter light (600 LEDs, I would just use a buncha shift registers arranged in a long "bucket-brigade"; all clocked at 1 cycle of course, and a divide-by-60 flip-flop providing the everyotherminute effect (odd minutes get a "1", even a "0")...

Re: DON'T POST LONG URLs

Hi, Ron! I really wasn't that upset; it's just a minor annoyance...
As they say "avoid the 'noyds". (I'm SO glad I actually got the "avoid-the-noid" figure before it disappeared! We're MUCH too litigious of a society...)
Though, at the risk of offending you again, a slight correction; the code h...

Re: Video Camera Detector Schematic?

I've never heard of a "red-box". I've heard of "black-box", "blue-box", and even a "silver-box". I have no problem using a video camera disrupter (would like to have a unit that disrupts cameras AND sound recorders); I intend to buy a CELL PHONE disrupter soon (to augment the sign I carry in my car,...

Re: DC to AC conversion... ?

You can probably buy a surplus brick that will change 12v into ± 12v; OR, you'll probably find that the -12v uses only a couple of milliamps, making it adaptable to a 7660 charge-pumped-inverter. Simple IC, 8-pins, couople of capacitors, diode; puts out I think 10mA of negative voltage...
www...

HOW CAN THEY DO THAT?!?! (lm3909)

When did this get discontinued? I was sure you could still buy them even from Radio Shack! I'm gonna hafta buy a supply of them! Anyone remember all the nifty circuits from the "NS Applications Handbook"? And I saw a circuit on the web for an animal tracking transmitter, using micro power.
That ma...

Re: Video Camera Detector Schematic?

It's pretty well stalled, I'm afraid. I was hopin' to find a ready-to-go schematic. Not even on that Electronic Circuit Schematics page, which lists probably over 1000 circuits.
I still don't see why I can't build a non-superhet AM radio with a ferrite loop, and tune the LC tank for 15750. Any re...
