Re: Basic Basic Question

Ok so the cap can provide the 500 Amps based on the voltage output through the resistor.

So how high would the power rating on the resistor have to be? I calculated 6000 Watts.
Is that available??
bob

Basic Basic Question

I have a very basic capcitor question.
I know that a cap stores voltage and passes current. I'd like to know how a car audio cap, 1 Farad provides some 500 Amps to the system from a 14.4 V Battery/Alternator.
I'm probably missing somthing really simple here.....
thanks
bob

Best Interface Option

Hey,
I am looking to interface a called ID decoder chip to my computer. The chip's output is serial data, 1200 baud, 1 stop, 8 data for a total of 10 bits. Should i go into the serial port directly with this or convert it parallel with a UART and go to the parallel? I want to use VB to record the ...

Re: Electret Microphone Element

Ok, i have my meter connected to the side of the cap not connected to the mic, and ground and the meter reads zero.
I guess the cap does not pass the dc.

Electret Microphone Element

Hey guys
I need help. How on earth does the electret mic work? I have it connected as in the diagram that accompanies it, but on monitoring the output voltage, it doesn't change. How do i make this work in a circuit??
Here is the diagram
<font size="1" face="Verdana, H...

Re: Choosing a Microcontroller

Also, how would you code an ignore function? Is there an ignore function for all families of pics or just the higher memory ones?
For instance, does the 16f84 have an ignore function?

How about using all four wheels as a generator to generate or to recharge the batteries?

Re: Choosing a Microcontroller

Ok....the data is 8 eight binary bits, so i suppose 1 byte?
The first 300 bits that are to be ignored are the same all the time. Could this allow the PIC to get ready?
What is a circular buffer?

Choosing a Microcontroller

Hey guys,
Can you please suggest a pic (preferably) or a microcontroller that can loosly do the following.
Have about 325 bits of information sent serially to it. The unit must ignore the first 310 bits, record the next eight and ignore the last 7 bits. The eight recorded bits must be compared t...

16F84

Hey guys is the 16F84 chip powerful enough to take in 8 bits of data and compare it to information from RAM and set one of its pins low or high if the data matches?
If not, what do you recommend?

Wow you guys certainly know your stuff. How about the SUS then.....anywho know much about that? I cant find the schmatic symbol anywhere.
Anybody know of any good thyristor books or resources?
[ November 25, 2002: Message edited by: newguy ]
