Re: Radio Shack still has parts!
I haven't been on the BB for a while, & cheers to the creator of the new format. As far as RS, & others who ask info on a cash sale, I just alter the last 4 of my ph#, so Santa Claus gets the mail. Parts for me lately are better on Ebay. 1,000 1% resistors for <$5.00?? can't beat it, not eve...

Excellent observation, Will. But remember, in NYS, the the right and left hands of commerce and jurisprudence are Nepotism and the Almighty Dollar. Sad, but true. So WHO builds the plant , and WHO benefits HOW MUCH from its operation determine its existence. Like toll booths. Re: the car(b); Fossil ...

If you can build , why buy , & vice versa.... What are you lopoking to control ? Washing machines, sprinklers, dishwashers ? Solenoid valves with electronic control. Sprinkler systems use them already. WHat's your goal ??

Re: RF Signal strength to measure distance
If it's low power, the received signal will be 'heard' gradually appearing from a background of noise. So, if you modulate a 1,000hz tone (arbitrarily) , as loud / soft pulses (tick\tock), then either detecting hysterisis, or using a 555 as a ' missing pulse detector' will give you an output only wh...

Re: Help Find Flaw
One of the proposed subatomic particles is the Higgs Boson ( Protons and neutrons are only 2 of several 'bosons', which are the larger nuclear particles). Actually , the Higgs is supposed to be the largest, and account for what we know as 'mass', which is actually only manifest as inertia anyway. So...

Re: Help Find Flaw
Electrical circuits are bipolar ( hot & Gnd ). RF technically is also, with the earth being the ground. But light 'appears' monopolar . A photon's intrinsic energy is perceived enough to generate a detectable voltage (which is the quantum energy in the wire; the current being the actual electron...

Re: pulse width modulation circuit (PWM)
Rudimentary, but it should work. But you'll also probably have problems getting it to work right. Most serial/parallel ports can handle 40mA at up to 12V, so driving the ckt should be enough. But is it a true step motor, or are you just pulsing a regular motor ? Is it brushless? It seems that the 'o...

Re: Help Find Flaw
Chris, what a lovely can of worms ! My understanding of the 'entangled pair' is this; The only true relationship that the pair shares is identical frequency and phase. Like the exact color of cyan in color TV. So the decillion other photons have differing phase and frequency. Big deal. How could you...

Hmmmm.... Hobbyist fodder: 555's , LM2900 ,LM1458 ,LM108 (instrument) , poly styr/ethyl/propylene cap's, 1% precicion resistors in asst'd values, LM358/380 audio, IRF540's & 3055 power x-istors, asst'd zeners, asst'd SMT's..... I'm OK. But if you have labeled coils or odd freq. crystals . Stuff ...

Re: Help Find Flaw
I agree. If rearward travel is 1 femtosecond in a 'threshold' of 4 fsec's, then media which exploit that quantum dynamic would see a 25% increase in transmission rate. And, as you have to BUY something to get a discount, you'd get a 'time' discount as you go forward. But considering that electricity...

Re: Forget Hydrogen
Good point, Steven. I've wondered, if gravity does work that moves something sideways ( no vertical deflection), does that object lose weight ? Not mass , of course, but a falling object technically loses weight as long as it is accelerating. Hmmmm. 1-800-Jenny Craig ???

Re: Help Find Flaw
Chris, agreed. But I think that time, or " delta-T approaching zero", that is the EXACT MOMENT, is an illusion. I believe that there is a threshold, like a wavefront to time, which we're always surfing. Maybe a nanosecond blur. That allows for Quantum time shifting, but not a trip back to ...

Re: Ideas For A Sensor
I like all the ideas, but the playing of the game portends the solution. Ex: the game 'Othello' uses discs, black top / white bottom. Painted magnets (Bk=N , Wh=South ), when detected, will tell you which SIDE of the disc faces up, which may matter. Also, if the board is lucite, SMT LED's & phot...
