I'm building several line following sensor arrays. One is an 8-inline array with QRD1114 sensors spaced at 0.5 inches. The 'line' will be 0.75 inch electrical tape. I want a more precise reading, so closer spacing, allowing two sensors to react when both are over the line, will give me more readings...

So I ordered a bunch of QRD1114's for a line-following robot to use as black/white sensors. Most schematics I've ever seen put a 270 ohm or 330 ohm current limiting resistor in a (regulated) 5-volt setup. From what I've read, the main reasons for servos are:
Small package
Built in gear box
Good power/weight ratio
Built-in feedback

So for a small (light weight) robot, I would thing servos would be the way to go. I just have no idea at what weight it makes more sense to go with motor control.
