A very, very good C compiler for PICs is MikroC by Mikroelektronika. Only downside is that you have to pay for it: http://www.mikroe.com/en/compilers/mikroc/pic/ - The one thing that makes it better than Microchip's C18 is that it has a library for doing lots of stuff (LCD - graphical/text, I2C, SP...

Well, I don't know if they will let you do this, but it might work.... Have a CO2 fire extinguisher slowly gas them. CO2 puts out a fire by displacing oxygen. I would think that if you could keep the CO2 in there long enough that it would work. I would hate to have to clean up all of the dead carcas...

Since uC's are my favorite thing to work with, I thought I would chime in. First off, all of the other comments are excellent. I use PICs, mostly because I started with them and I have a lot of tools and boards to work with for them. That being said, if I had to do something very intensive, I think ...

SMT magnification suggestions
I am looking at getting a better magnifier for doing smt. Right now I use a regular magnifying glass which is getting to be a real pain. When doing SMT, what magnification do you all use? Originally I thought I would need 10x but I think 3-5x would work. Any suggestions from someone who knows more t...

Merry PICmas kit
I am not one for kits (or Christmas), but, this one I like, as my better half lives for the season. I read the article and couldn't find any mention of the size of the tree. Does anyone know how tall it is?
Thanks,
Kevin
Thanks,
Kevin

[F/T] AC power line Capacitors
I have a bag of 20-30 Okaya AC caps. Most seem to be the XYE type here: http://www.okaya.com/oea/products.aspx?CategoryId=5# They are assorted values. Some have wires, some have pins. One is a snap-in 1000A surge protector. Since I will never use these, I want to get them a new home, so I will trade...

I have the EasyPic3 and I love it. I also have MikroPascal - which I hardly ever use anymore - switched to Microchip's C18 compiler. If you don't need any more that a 40 pin uC, the EP5 would be a great choice. If you need more than a 40 pin device, check out the BigPic or check out some of microchi...

Sorry the hear that, been there recently - 18 years was a good life for Grady, my cat. That sucks. This was a little more involved. My cat had 4 kittens and they all died of anemia. I am extremely bent out of shape about it. Tried to give two of them mouth to nose, but it didn't work. I blame mysel...

Bad couple of days... One of our pets died :( Anyway, I am getting an order ready and I should have all the parts next week. So, hopefully, you can help me more then <please> I like mostly classic rock. A lot of rush, floyd, VH, Styx, REO - things like that. Plus a few hair bands from the late 80's....
