Re: Is Nuts and Volts dead ?

So... I just wanted to add my voice to this subject... I have been a reader of Nuts and Volts (and every other electronics magazine) since I was a kid, some 30+ years ago, and the school librarian subscribed especially for me - I was the only one in the whole school who read any of them. Once I got ...

Re: looking for power supply info for Databrick II

Just in case anyone else needs this info... I have discovered (and verified) that the ground pin is indeed the lower right and the positive pin is the upper left. This is looking straight on at the power connector.

Re: looking for power supply info for Databrick II

You and I seem to be on the same wavelength...

That was the next step I took - asking around on eBay. So far no response. And the person selling just the computer is who I purchased this from in the first place, so they would be of no help...

Thanks anyway!

Re: capacitor or MOV?

Its a 2200 pf 250v probably ceramic capacitor with prebent leads for automatic insertion. I beleive the X1Y1 stuff relates to a safety designation. I have seen these on line entry filters. Across the line is one designation. Line to grd is another and neutral to ground yet another . And it's purpos...

Re: capacitor or MOV?

Tzap, I have attached a photo of it... this one is KX222M instead of KX472M, but the component is identical.

Hakelsup, I like your suggestion! I'm always up for a good explosion. I will give that a try tomorrow.

Re: looking for power supply info for Databrick II

Thank you Tzap, but that was the first place I went - straight to the manufacturer. Unfortunately, they informed me that most of the employees there don't even know about this device and therefore, were unable to be of any help.

looking for power supply info for Databrick II

I know this is way obsolete, but I think it will serve my purposes. I just bought a Datalux Databrick II portable computer with a touchscreen monitor on eBay that I am planning on using for a car MP3 player. I didn't think figuring out power supply would be a problem, but I was wrong... From what I'...

capacitor or MOV?

I have a bag full of components that I find regularly in television and DVD/VCR power supply circuits. They are small, circular, blue components with two leads and the following numbers printed on them: KX472M X1Y1 BS415 From their position in the power supply circuits on the AC power line, I was un...

Re: possible help using a vacuum flourescent display?

The datasheet is the datasheet that the manufacturer provided me for this custom board. I only meant that the self-test routine described in the datasheet was inadvertently left in from the original design.

Thanks...

Re: possible help using a vacuum flourescent displ

Hi, A quick idea (i did not study the data sheet very well yet) would be to try the self test first. Did you try that test first, and if so, what were the results? Yeah... I did attempt to try the self-test mode, but since this is a custom designed display, I think they reused part of the original ...

possible help using a vacuum flourescent display?

I have a now obsolete vacuum fluorescent display manufactured by IEE. I contacted the company and they were kind enough to send me a datasheet for the device. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it working right. This particular display was custom designed for a customer as a serial device. I have tr...

Re: 6v battery indicator

Hi Derek. Myself, I'd use the LM3914 chip. You'd only need 5 resistors for setting any voltage points to turn on the leds. You can have regular LEDs (up to ten) or can use a BAR display. Just google the LM3914 to get the datasheet. Also this IC doesn't require resistors to the LEDs. Hope this helps...
