Why Don't HEPA & Electrostatic Dust Trappers Work?
When I was teenager I developed really bad allergies. My post about protecting a LCD monitor screen from heavy dust, started me thinking again about all these residential air filtration devices. The dust collection system I have in my own shop is big, noisy, and just plain ugly! If you visit an attr...

More than one person has told me to flash the BIOS. The hardware manufacturers usually say if you're not having problems, don't do a flash. I've flashed all sorts of BIOS chips. Some in CD and DVD burners, as well as several mobos. I can't remember if these updates made any noticeable difference. A ...

I know all the problems Bigglez. In this case I'll be dealing with low current computer peripherials. There are boxes used with stationary power tools that draw heavy current. They delay the startup of dust collectors, so you don't trip your breakers. I like inductive sensors coupled to an optoisola...

Startup Delay Box Needed
I need a box that can handle line voltage (120vac). When the current increases from whatever is plugged into the box, a delay is triggered. Something like 2 seconds-to-2 minutes would be about right. It could be part of a multi-outlet power strip, or just a box with an input and output. Its easy eno...

If the whole world decided to junk their USB drives in favor of eSATA I guess that would be ok with me. There is no doubt that eSATA drives and their controllers process data at amazing speeds. I'm not sure if disabling USB and running eSATA drives only would be the solution. This mobo lists everyth...

BIOS Keeps Changing Boot Order Priority
(Operating System is XP Pro_SP3) I recently built a desktop with a Gigabyte mobo. I've got at least six (I'm afraid to count them all!) external hard drives. No, I don't collect hard drives like some folks collect baseball cards. I really need them all for various business activities. The older ones...

Its an LCD Monitor. I don't know what's pulling the dust to the screen. If you aim a powerful lamp at the monitor you can see the dust flying through the air and landing on the screen. I keep a laptop computer in my shop. I've got a fairly good dust collection system, but it doesn't catch the very f...

Dust Shield Needed for Monitor Screen
I helped a friend setup a computer in an environment that has a lot of airborne dust. The monitor screen pulls in dust like a shop vac. I've never seen anything like it! I purchased a piece of lexan mr10 (very durable) and went into my shop to make a screen for the monitor. After a few hours and sev...

Thanks jollyrgr. I found that pdf with all those email addresses too. I wish I was one of those TV lawyers or detectives who was trying to save the world by catching the bad guys. My dad used the same respected broker for many years. He's elderly and chronically ill. After sixty years (yes, that's s...

Finding Business Email & Street Addresses
All this information is legally available if a company is publicly traded on any stock exchange. I'm trying to find business phone numbers, email and street addresses for the top executives at Wachovia. Here is the complete list at the Wachovia site: http://www.wachovia.com/inside/page/0,,132_155,00...

I've got two internal SATAII drives setup in a RAID 0 configuration. You're correct, MrAl. During a fresh install of XP you are prompted to hit a key (F6, if I remember correctly) to install the drivers from a floppy or CD. Before anyone tells me about the hazards of RAID 0, I already know. When two...

Is This New Hard Drive Bad -or- What?
I purchased a SATAII hard drive and enclosure. I now have an eSATA (external) drive that doesn't work. The main BIOS setup does not show the drive, but there is a seperate BIOS utility for creating RAID configurations that lists the drive as healthy! I can hear the drive motor spool up, if that mean...

Your replies are great, as usual! After I returned amplified phone number three I was sure I had done all that I could do. I couldn't believe how bad these expensive phones were. The manufacturers always provided elaborate PDFs describing all the complex stuff loaded into their phones. With each pho...
