New scope time

The time has come for me to retire the old analog oscilloscope and enter the DSO world. Hope to purchase a new unit within a few months. I am seeing many new brands out there, especially the imports. The imports seem to have great features for the price. The low end Tektronix scopes are also in the ...

Re: ground chassis to neutral?

I would consider using a 18V Nicad or Lithium-Ion battery powered drill. In the long run it will save time, money and resolve the power cord grounding issues. These newer units will make all the power needed for heavy use for at least 4hrs. Most come with a back up battery for all day use.Good luck JS

Re: Display driver

Yes, I think I see where your going with this and with some refresh reading on digital logic this is making a little more sense. I only need to generate 8 different letters (not all at once) and 0-9. I did find a site with several drivers for 5x8's but the data sheets weren't ready yet.JS

Display driver

Is there anyone with info about a 5x8 dot matrix LED character generator or driver chip. All of the sites I've checked so far only cover the 5x7's. I got the displays for free and don't want to gang up a bunch of gating chips to make them work. The readout will only be six characters wide. Thanks JS.

Re: IR source/detector pair

I found the 276-142 at one of the Radio Shacks and have it on the breadboard now. I have set the angle to reflect off a strip of aluminum foil and it works 100% from this surface. The problem now is that it will also intermittently pickup the regular painted surface of the objects. I might be able t...

IR source/detector pair

I need to find an IR emitter/detector device(s) that will see an object approximately 1" away in reflective mode. The ambient lighting will be room lighting (fluorescent) and I can use reflective tape on the objects. I am willing to work with discrete devices but prefer a unit(s) with filtering and ...

LPRS modules

Is there anyone in the group that has worked with the LPRS "Easy Radio" modules? The UK based company has several modules and a demonstration kit available. What seems to be unique about their approach to wireless is the radio frequency, power out, baud rate, etc. is software/firmware selectable. Th...

Re: Stray 110 voltage

I agree with the group, sounds like an induced voltage. If your going to be in the the electrical trade may I suggust buying a "Wiggins",or Wiggy. These are a solenoid driven voltage meter and will load down a stray, the meter won't pull in and the indicator lamp will not light. I use a Knopp brand,...

Servo connector

Any suppliers or sites for a Futuba FP-S148 servo connector. The end I need is usually built into the receiver. It's a three pin male. Hobby shops no luck so far. Ideas please?

Re: Tektronix 485 scope repair help needed

JS here, Thanks for the info about the 2215. Yes, the power supply is a dog to work on and TEK revised it at least once. The manual does include the changes. I'll have to get back to this one later. Thanks all.JS

Re: Tektronix 485 scope repair help needed

I have a Tek 2215 with a similar problem. The ticking sound is the inverter starting up and shutting down. This is what it should do if there is an overload. My problem is also intermittent. I went into it once before and found that everything checked OK as far as values, remelted a few solder pads ...

power supply hangup

Many years back I made a power supply in Jr. college and have started to use it for some microcontroller work. It uses the LM723 regulator with a pass transistor with a 0 to 25 volt output and it works fine 99% of the time. Sometimes when first turned on the output voltage will go to max, with the o...
