Re: Monitor house current Magazine article Info??

Thanks for the link to Homeseer.com. That will take a little studying to see if they have something that will do my job. I tend to DIY, and am able to design/build PCB's, have several PIC's and a PLC that manages a 3 fuel standby generator.

Another one is Smarthome.com. :)

Monitor house current Magazine article Info??

About 4 years ago, there was an article in either Nuts & Volts or Circuit Cellar magazine that showed how to measure the current (amps) on household electrical circuits. The method was to take say 6 wraps of #18 yellow wire around one circuit's hot wire at the circuit breaker. These pairs of wir...

Happy to have Forrest on the list. I have always admired the basics of his books. I have an antique here on the desk: "Engineer's Notebook II" by Forrest, copyright 1982. It came from Radio Shack (when you could get a good selection of electronics there) for $2.49. I still use it for a ref...

They are likely to be metric sizes (all or in part). There are several US standard sizes in that size range that the nut fits the other family, and the machine screw won't fit the the nut or visa versa. I have run into that numerous times lately, and when putting spares that I am unsure of back to s...

Was said: signal on RG-6 is analog. I don't know (well out of my expertice), it's different than the old analog, what I was trying to say is I receive HDTV from over the air on the RG-6, therefore it has sufficient bandwidth, or whatever it's called to get a HDTV signal to the receiver. Just like th...

BiggLEz said: You would need a very widebandwidth analog RF channel to carry the 19.4Mbits/sec HD data (that comes out of the HD receiver). My current RG-6 plus combiner/splitter (a dozen coax's to it) does a fine job of delivering HDTV from roof antenna to receivers. Of course that is digital data,...

1 TV is full HDTV, 1 is HD monitor (will get a tuner for it), 1 is old analog and it will be repaced with full HDTV in near future, and computer is HDTV. Would like to distribute HD, otherwise my current setup would work. Plan to replace the 2 Directv with HD units in near future. It's just the dist...

That unit combines 2 signals to output 8 of them. I would need 2 in parallel to give me 4 inputs, and then that would mean running HDMI cable 2 sets everywhere, some of them 60 foot long, strung from attic down to a wall outlet box, and those cables aren't cheap and are difficult to terminate yourse...

COnverting to HDTV

My current setup is a home NTSC distribution network where all the receivers go through modulators so a one goes from one receiver to the other all they have to do is tune that modulator frequency. All the receivers go to a combiner/splitter and then to the receivers. Here's a list of receivers: (2)...

Federal Law (USA) REQUIRES that you use an appropriately rated and certified transfer switch. This is to prevent killing a lineman if there is an outage on the electric service. If there is any interconnection possible between your power source, and the electric service, the safety of the line crews...

Flickering indicates a loose connection, and it could be dirty (damaged) contacts on the breaker. How old is the house, what type wiring does it have, and I'm thinking in the USA standard wiring. If any of the wires are aluminum (and this is a major safety issue!!!) preferably change them to copper,...

1: Sounds like the advance curve is not tolerance, there might be centrifugal advance weights inside the case. 2: on aircraft magnetos many have a wide range for the point gap, but the actual gap is set using an "E-GAP" specification which results in a gap much different than the starting ...
