Re: Changing my religion- to linux

Hey folks, I haven't been around in a while, but I thought I'd poke my head back in now. @MrAl: Last I heard, VIA graphics chipsets weren't fun with Linux - and that probably is the fault of VIA rather than the Linux devs. That said, I can understand how it would be frustrating. @Jwax: Google's &quo...

Hi Jeff, --SNIP-- For example, a guitar i have uses a 250k pot for the volume while the pickups impedance is about 9k ohms. Since the 250k is always in parallel with the 9k pickup, its value is high enough so that it does not load the 9k pickup too much. I would think 100k would not be too bad eith...

wow... talk about overthinking things!
*slaps forehead*... yeah, I don't imagine a Pot would introduce much distortion, now would it?

I honestly think I've gotten stupider this summer...
Thanks,
Jeff

ARM eval board - JTAG question

I'm looking into purchasing one of Luminary Micro's ARM eval boards, specifically this one , and I had a few questions. I haven't worked with ARM before, nor do I know much about JTAG, so forgive me for any stupid questions. The website says "...and an In-Circuit Debug Interface (ICDI) for any ...

Inline volume control for high-end sound system

Hey all, Several years ago, a friend of mine started work on designing and building a pipe organ in his house. He ended up building it with electric valves, using an organ synthesizer as a console for it. He also bought a few very high end speakers, hidden behind the pipes, so that he could play the...

MrAl: Agreed that it's horribly overpriced, but I wouldn't call it a "scam". The website makes it pretty clear that it's intended to be bought by "magicians" to fool others. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you... Edit: I took a further look at that website, and I guess I'll have to ag...

That's an interesting video... *chuckle* It's a good effect, if you don't think too much about it. I was thinking about the reset mechanism too. I might be wrong, but I believe that every time he turned them all off, he turned off the outside two at the same time, and then the inside two at the same...

@MrAl: Yes, that's the game. Thanks, but I'd actually already considered rebuilding it and decided not to. The game's case is already in the trash, but I just saved the pcb out of interest's sake. I was primarily curious about the mcu, to see if anyone knew anything about it.

Early Microcontroller Info

Hey all, so... I was cleaning the basement recently (not so fun), when I came across an old Milton Bradley "Simon" game that my family's had for years. (Probably since before I came into existence, and I think it's been broken most of that time - I've certainly never played it.) I had orig...

I agree that KDevelop is great for QT/KDE-based programs, and a new release is in the works, IIRC. If you want to do GTK/GNOME-based apps, try Anjuta (I haven't used it myself, but I've heard it's good. For a GTK designer, you'll probably want GLADE. These are all likely available from your distro's...

Hi rotatepod, I don't know off the top of my head, but here's what I do know (or think I do, anyways). If the headset plug has 3 conductors, then I don't see how it could be binaural, due to the need of a ground connection. It's likely set up with a monoaural audio connection, a mic connection, and ...

Source for hackable, small, qwerty keyboard

Hey all, I don't have a particular project in mind, but I was in FutureShop today with some friends, and ran across the XBox360 keyboard addon for the controllers. If you haven't seen it, here's a picture, and here's one of it mounted in the controller. I've never actually used one, but it looked ni...

I might add that you can get several MAX232s from Maxim's website free, if you're a student. It might take a week or two (or longer, depending on where you are). Also, if you just want a serial ADC, there is probably a simpler way to do it. I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but that ...

Yes, that was what I was meaning, although code upgrades are always good too. To be honest, the reason I thought about this now was that my computer has issues, so I'm booting it from a CD - a CD which happens to be made for penetration testing, and contains all of the tools I mentioned! Made me thi...
