Re: logic circuits run from 12 volt car batteries

go to the hobby store and get "rocket fuses". They are like a match head with two wires coming out. They use very little current and only for a moment, cause when the "match head" stuff goes the circuit is broken. To attach, fray the end of the fireworks fuse so a little of the p...

Re: Solder Stations Who/What/Where to buy?

Get a solder sucker. This device is a hand held, spring loaded, one-shot vacuum piston type pump. Once cocked, melt the solder to be removed, place the nozzle of the sucker as close to the solder as you can and press the release. You may need to suck the same joint more than once. A trick that I’ve ...

I can’t help it, I feel compelled to make a contribution here. This is for all of you that don’t know physics, but it’s also for all of you that do!
Take a LARGE tumbler fill it with really cold ice pour your favorite liquor over the ice until the glass is almost completely full. Re: Need help with DC-DC conversion

Chris Smith writes: “First you need to change the DC into a wave form like square wave pulsed DC using an oscillator like a 555. The right frequency for the right transformer is essential for maximum saturation and conversion. “
I’m kind of rusty here so this is for my clarification . I agree tha...

Re: *** Need Help Choosing a Tektronix Scope ***

BeatleFred, Check out Tektronics new line of digital storage scopes. It is a digital SAMPLE scope so it will behave like an analog scope (not a single sweep like a crt storage scope) or a storage scope (holds several wave forms). I to, was looking for something like you are and when I saw the price ...

Re: PIR portable alarms

Smitty, I do not know what “PIR portable alarms” are, but I do have a recommendation. If you are in the build process on your home NOW is the time to hardwire ANYTHING that you may even think you may even remotely want. Alarm stuff is typically low voltage and therefore escapes the requirement for c...

solenoid coils AC? DC?

I have some solenoids that are rated at 14v AC 60Hz (low current).
Can I use DC?
Why or why not?
Draw backs?

Re: ac grid sensor needed

Max
Ned gives good advice.
my suggestion would to use a relay rated "continous duty" That means that the coil in the relay can be energized all the time. A relay not designed to be on all the time might (most likely will) burn out.

Re: Looking for mains transformers

I've had good luck calling wholesalers and asking for a sample. Get a hold of a sales person and ask! Don't be afraid to ask for several of the same item. They might ask what company you are with. I'm a weasel, I'll say just about anything to get what I want. If this tact ain't your thing, tell them...
