What version of linux are you running? I tried Ubuntu 10.4. I didn't like it. I agree with you on windows 7. I have not tried 8 and don't plan to. The only reason I'm using 7, it came on the last computer I bought.

Did you use a 32 bit or 64 bit version of win7? I have a PC with win7 64 and I can't use a lot of my older programs. I just found out that win7 is available in 32 bit version.

Well, it finally died. So slow it takes forever to do anything. What does Dell have on the hard drive, it will not boot on another computer (non dell). IT will show www.dell.com at top of screen and it stops there. I can hook the hard drive up to another computer on a USB port.

Thanks for the replies. We are using XP. I hooked up a win 98 Hard drive to see how it would run with the new memory.
When I got that error message, I thought that the memory was faulty.
