Re: Non Existent Items

Machine operator needed some easy way to separate thin brass washers from aluminum washers. The aluminum was a backing to be able to punch the very thin brass washers without burrs. Someone sent him to get a brass magnet.

Re: Fusing AC

I've seen a couple of instances in which a non-polarized plug could be plugged into an outlet on a contraption which would leave that item with the electronics still hot unless both lines were fuzed in case of a short.
I also had a basement in a house I'd bought that had the wires ran in conduit i...

Re: Radio Shack getting out of parts supply

Hi Guys, Those mini Engineer's notebooks are still available through the Nuts&Volts bookstore by mail order. A little more pricy than at Radio Shack who doesn't carry them. But they are the full line of all the thiner ones in thicker ones. Inow have the full set of 4 of them and lots of good inf...

Re: On Target: In the Trenches, July 05

Hi Paul, Some of those articles (In The Trenchs) are good. While I worked at a high tech place I wasn't associated with the electronics end but the sheetmetal mechanical end. Stuff the electronics gets installed on. I dealt with the engineers but not their superiors. I was in quality control as an i...

Re: Solar Cells need help

Update #2 Regardless of what the information sheet from Goldmine stated it takes a fair amount of heat to do a good solder job. I soldered a few more and redid the one with the red wire on the negative so that it is red on the positive. And I dug out my old Archer VOM to make it easier to read the o...

Re: Solar Cells need help

An update, Soldered two 4" leads to a broken photo cell. However I assumed the top (light sensitive area) was the positive pole but it turned out to be negative so I will solder the black wire to the top in the future. It took several tries to get the solder to stick. I had to use rosin solder f...

Solar Cells need help

Got interested in solar cells so I ordered some from Electronic Goldmine. You know, the assortment of broken ones. The instructions to solder leads to them state to use #26 stranded wire which I haven't found but did find some #24 solid wire at Lowe's (telephone wire 4 wires in a plastic cover (red,...

Re: Books on Op-Amps

Hi John, Go to www.half.com to check out the used books. A lot of the popular authors of electronic books have wrote about OPAMPS. Give the author's name and check what is listed under that name for the books. Prices are such that yoiu can have quite a library of books on OPAMPS for $70.00. Often a ...

AA BATTERIES A hint to keep them under control when you need to take spare batteries with youi for you camera or radio or whatever. A soft plastic cassette case (some call them mailing cases) will hold 9 AA batteries, Nicad or regular, and keep them in one place. You will need to put a couple of rub...

Back in 1947-1948 I attended a Junior College and it was manditory you take a course in English your first year of studies. And one of the textbooks was "Writer's Guide and Index to English". That was your Bible to the course. Every week you had to write a paper of such length and it had t...

Re: Ear Buds

I wish to apologize> I had a 4 or 5 way bypass operation back in Oct 2002 and to do the bypass the surgeon had to stop my heart. The 4 hour operation ended up exceeding 7 hrs. And since they tested me for memory loss because of that I do know that the few months preceeding the operation are spotting...

Ear Buds

This concerns the ear plugs (ear buds) that some use to listen privately to various types of radios. For sake of simplicity I am referring to the monaural (single ear) type.
I have seen them listed as dynamic, crystal and ceramic and I presume that they are different. The dynamic I presume are the...
