Re: Battery running times

Another consideration is the cycle life of lead acid batteries (or most Lead acid, deep cycle, VRLA rechargable batteries). When "using" 100 % of the capacity of the battery, the long term cycle life will be affected negatively. In tests here, we saw 50 % reduction in cycle life (useable n...

Call 'em up and ask for a sample. Maxim is pretty liberal with their stuff trying to get the sales up!

Re: 12 V Lead Acid Charger

I agree with Chris. If the power outlet on the car is used for charging only, then you could use a smaller (less wattage) higher resistance (like the 10 Chris suggests, albeit at a lesser wattage). The data logger draw in this state is the unknown which must be accounted for. The following is based ...

Re: Closed Caption Encoder

I'm sorry, the link I gave you goes to the Bob2 which is not reccomended for new designs. It has a link to Bob3. The Bob2 may be cheaper though!

Re: Closed Caption Encoder

Hi,
This article talks about the BOB2 which seems to do what you want.
http://www.jameco.com/Jameco/images/cc-images/baptiste-112.pdf The address for just the BOB2 is: www.decadenet.com/bob2/bob2.html
Hopefully this works out for you. By the way, this is a closed caption encoder, the previo...

Re: Creating a high impedence probe

Also, consider that your parrallel port will be extremely slow (real time) in comparison to logic analyzers which have local memory then transfer results in non-realtime. I have played with the parrallel port with a pentium class (mmx 200) and was able to handle about 100KHz aggregate (meaning that ...

Re: timer circuit

Hi,
I would suggest that you check out some circuit diagrams available at the local radio shack in a series by Forrest Mimms call engineers notebook. They have one called timer / OPAMP circuits (I believe). In there you will see several circuits using a 555 timer IC to do just what you describe. ...

Re: Electric Vehicles

Harold,
UCAPS come in two varieties (right now), acqueous and non-acqueous. The acqueous capacitors are safe from a hazardous material point of view. They use a pottasium based electrolyte and some lead. The non-acqueous based capacitors use something called StarLyte ACN which is based on Ethaneni...

Re: Electric Vehicles

No Problem Harold,
The Super or Ultra Capacitors are having an impact and will probably help with dynamics on EV and hybrid powertrains within a few years. Right now the costs are too high, and there are problems with some of the UCAPS emitting cyanide when overcharged, not something I want to be ...

Re: Reliable No-Parts PIC Programmer

Agreed that motorola processors have some benefits, but I work with both and prefer the PIC, primarily due to the RISC architecture (a blessing and a curse) and a breadth of product ranges and I/O. A "real" processor like the 08 is useful for my larger integrated designs (like data logging...

Re: Electric Vehicles

Harold,
The main problem is that impurities can cause premature failure of internal parts. I do not pretend to be an expert on this, but at a conference recently, the issue of impurities injested by the fuel cell showed that in some cases, material commonly found in the air can cause oxidation in ...

I'm looking for technical data on some of the moving LED displays that Silent Radio manufactured before they went out of business. Anybody seen anything such as schematics, interface requirements, message protocol?
Thanks in advance
