Re: Copper clad Al wire

The US embraced aluminum wire years ago, and regretted some of it.
Today aluminum is still used for large feeders teminated with Al/CU rated connectors.
Small wire was a nightmare and has been banned most everywhere due to cold flow and work hardening issues.
Failures are not worth the money saved.

Re: HotSpot question

Sorry, I guess I didn't say it but there is no router and it is not related to cell phone service.
These are SmartSets, with built in WiFi that are receiving from Xfinity (Comcast) HotSpots.
Hope this helps.

Re: Realistic specs

Hi CeaSaR Nope, not carbon comp. These were small, blue, like .5W metal film 100 ohm. One measured ROA (Resistance Of Air) but both got changed with higher rating resistors. This amp originally came in with one side of the primary winding open in the output transformer. These Trace Elliott Velocette...

HotSpot question

My son lives in a condo, not far from an Xfinity HotSpot. He gets fair connection speeds during the day but it suffers at night with a lot of buffering, I guess since traffic has increased, or atmospheric conditions changed. I found a ton of 'Extenders, Amplifiers and Repeaters' online that claim wo...

Re: WAT IZZ IT?

Here's the end of the story... The electronic parts bag was a mini tesla coil. After assembly it managed to make a .25" arc with corona discharge and a bit of ozone. Even at that minimal performance the heat sinked power transistor got hot in a couple of minutes. To do anything a power pack and fan ...

Re: Realistic specs

Regarding cleaning that plastic tuning cap. Beware, most of those era variable caps used very thin plastic separators between the plates since it was all packed together so tight. The unit is pretty well sealed so anything you inject will take a long time to evporate. If the plates are wet or the cl...

Re: Shopjimmy

I bought a board set, main board and power supply, for a Vizo a few years ago. It was around $30 for the set. The new main board had an issue. They replaced both boards and did not want the first set back.
I guess if you have a factory direct contact the real cost is pennies!

Re: Odd Commercial Products.........

I just realize now that many years ago our family must have had a very advanced toaster.

When the bread was half done you....

Flipped opened the door
and
Flopped over the bread.

I can still see the stylized 'JK ' brand on the door....😏

Yesterday I said to my wife "WoW, we sure got a lot of holiday cards today" as I was busy opening them.
They were the ones she put out for pickup earlier....

Re: Is Nuts and Volts dead ?

Well I just got a new issue a few days ago. Was it very late...or very early? As an observation, are the N&V magazine issues to blame for the poor response of members on the forum? Is it a too-busy, other direction, apathetic mindset? Many other forums seem to be more active and they do not have an ...

Yes it is a Tesla or HF generator by the look of the parts. As soon as I get the 'stuff' I'll update the post.
