"a standard 75 horsepower 1.5L engine" I didn't think they made cars with 75 HP engines since the 70's, aside from something like a Geo Metro. That is still an abismal power/displacement ratio. A 90's honda civic with a 1.6 still has something like 120 HP. And what about the tons o...

Actually he didnt. Nature had to lift the tree and the apple via the sun, he simply cashed in on the day it fell. Remember this entire planet is solar driven. [use that energy well] Air is not a source of energy, its a medium to transport energy, and a poor one at that. Yes he did. He didn't have t...

Isaac Newton got a free lunch when that apple fell out of the tree.

When I was working with an electrician as a teenager, i once accidentally shorted out the hot lead on the clip-off set outside the house to the copper ground wire below the meter box. Thing sounded like a fireworks rocket going off and there was smoke everywhere... but luckily the wire was just swin...

The guy who mops the floor and takes out the trash is a Custodial Engineer. I was the "broadcast engineer" for my college TV station my final year. It meant I knew how to use every single piece of equipment, and how to wire every single thing up into whatever else it could be plugged into....

Converting indoor speakers to keep outdoors

I have some decent sounding speakers I picked up from Goodwill for $10, look like they were part of a bookshelf system. I'd like to mount them under my girlfriends deck, and just put a weatherproof quick disconnect somewhere on the deck so when I want to use it i just plug it in and go. Where they'd...

if you're going to cannabilize something, i'd say go for the 1st or 3rd one, as they sync up to the atomic clock signal. The other one is just 'precision adjusted at the factory'. Then again, if you don't want to rely on a signal to adjust the time, go with the 2nd one. Practically, do I think they'...

Don't want to use regular ignitors and alligator clips, huh? Or are you trying to make some sort of reusable one?

who said you had to take a picture of the projected image.

I think a picture of the projector is where credibility might come from.

Or better yet, a picture which actually shows the projector projecting something.

Whatever VIRAND is smokin must be good. This is the biggest bunch of rambling crap I've ever seen on here. It's not even theoretical. It says "you can do this and you'll get this, save the environment, they're lying to you" but doesn't say how to do anything. It's not even logical... And w...

Maybe place baffles inside the goal to direct the ball to a good spot if it just drops to a tray below the goal. IR would probably be the best choice but a microswitch with a lever could do as well and it's less wiring. That's exaclty what it does, and that's exactly what I'm planning to do. "...

^^^ no mechanical switches! There's no room to hang anything behind the goal anyway, and if you put it in the bottom it wouldn't work, because that's where I am going to keep my spare balls. Besides, the whole thing I'm trying to keep as "stock" as possible. Yeah, the pinewood derby thing ...

Well, after reviewing those options, I think the IR is the best and cheapest solution. Cheap enough to even make it a redunant system. Thanks for your input. A 'regular' size ball is about 1 1/4" inches in diameter, and is made of a very hard plastic (?) compound, very similar to a billiard bal...

Fooseball goal sensor

I am now putting together a fooseball table I got for $62 new (normally $250!!) from K-mart, and it reminded me of a project I wanted to do in college with our old fooseball table. I'm going to be turning it into something like an arcade air hockey game, with automatic score keeping at first, then i...
