Re: Compact flash IDE ?
I have a large 8 axis lathe at work using a CF card drive in a 486 industrial PC running a C++ CNC program under DOS that has been trouble free in regards to the CF card drive for the last few years.

Not knowing what your budget is, all I can suggest is what I use at a forging mill... http://www.protectioncontrolsinc.com/teleflt.htm . These are cheap compared to full blown annunciators, but still run around $800. They do offer first out indication and can be cascaded for more monitoring points. ...

Re: running a vfd on single phase
What is your motor voltage, we need to know that first. Remember that single phase capacitor motors will not operate off of VFDs. Most likely you will need a 220 3 phase motor and a 5 hp 220 VFD.

Re: Blocking direct sun from large air cooled electric motor
Most motors are designed for a temp rise of 40^C over ambient, depending on the insulation of the windings you could be good for 221^F (Class A) to 356^F (Class H). There might not be a problem with the windings, however you may be looking at a potential bearing failure, it would be wise to grease t...

Re: 3000 watt inverter
I see that I erred on the current figure, however the connections should not offer a voltage drop, if they did they would have to be poorly made to be significant. 250 amps on an 8AWG will for any amount of time melt the insulation off regardless. 8AWG bare in free air is rated for 98 amps, that wou...
