serial cable reliability

I'm trying to transfer programs to a PCB over a USB/serial cable. Smaller programs around 3k transfer fine in two or three attempts (I usually just end up jostling the cable a little). But I'm trying to download a 15k one and it doesn't want to go. (Although I have in the past downloaded a larger on...

Re: EM spectrum and the human body

If you think that all of your friend's problems are strictly phycological it seems like it would be better to test out the shielding option first. Eliminating most EM (or even simply convincing him that its eliminated) seems simpler, and trying to excite the frequencies affecting his behavior could ...

Re: Robot Vision (image recognition)

Does your school have MatLab? Right now I am using MatLab for my own image recognition purposes. Mine uses a stationery camera though. I don't know how it will work mounted to a moving robot, but it is probably still feasible. (or perhaps use a camera mounted above the court that sends a signal wher...

Re: Lasers and Residue

I don't know how much control you have over the laser but what about trying to avoid a residue issue by not burning all the way through the insulation. only most of the way so that you can pull it off with a clean line. A similar thing could also be done with a mechanical stripper.
---------------...

Re: Help Find Flaw

A google search for the method (Stimulated Brillouin Scattering) the article mentioned brought up this website:http://www.npl.co.uk/photonics/nonlinear/sbsandsrs.html The original article mentions the previous accomplishments using different media to slow light, but the awesome achievement is that t...

Re: CRT Monitor connector

Entering "15 pin to 9 pin adapter" into google brought up some converters you could get. And if you wanted to rig something up yourself for whatever reason there's this webpage: http://pinouts.ru/data/9to15VGA_pinout.shtml
-------------------------------------------
I need a newbie di...

Re: Ideas For A Sensor

Alright, I need some sort of newbie disclaimer here. But what about using clear tubing and shooting a small stream/puff of air through. Then, use pressure/flow sensors to detect where chips have been placed. Depending on the accuracy some sort of flute like device could be fashioned.

Re: Senior Design Project (EE+ME)

A redesign of the Segway. I ridden one, they are nice, but expensive. And I've always thought the benefit and novelty of having two wheels was silly and added needless complexity. So, make your own personal transporter. This way you get something you can show off long after the project. :D

Re: Making hydrogen from water & DC

I'm a little less synical than most on the subject of free energy. I guess it's a hobby for me to design perpetual motion machines (i generally stick to mechanical designs) just to test and improve my own abilities. What I can't stand though is that I have one relatively simple design that seems lik...

Re: Do orbiting wires generate?

The previous study by NASA that was mentioned I believe was the Gemini project. But there is actually significant interest in it now. Its actually the topic of my graduate research. There was a decent article in Popular Science or Popular Mechanics a few months ago. A lot of info can be found at NAS...
