Re: Problems with IR Tachometer
Hi Philba,Stephen
The Schematic has not dissapeared, Bill has corrected it.
After a first look, he only corrected the error of driving the Display Transistors.
Cheers

Re: Problems with IR Tachometer
Hi Stephen
I am not sure if this is an error.
The correct behaviour would be
count 6 seconds and display the
result for 10 seconds.
Which connection of the counter to the
disply unit would be correct in your opinion?
Cheers

Re: Problems with IR Tachometer
Dear Stephen thanks a lot for your input, I think it is working now.
During the repair work I found a YAE ( yet another error ;-) Digit one and three are mixed up. Pin15 goes to digit three and pin2 to digit one. After correcting this I get "reasonable" counting.
Though it is by no mea...

Hi Grant
You wrote: Did you make your own PCB pattern because there is none in the Servo article?
Yes and no, I did it, because I have so many Cmos ICs in the junkbox, and the project interested me. But as you said there was no pcb and I hate to wire wrap my circuits,...
Cheers Michael

Re: Recommendations for SMD work
Dear Alby
I work mainly with smd and don't think you will need that much money for a good station.
I bought a AOYUE-968 rework station for 160$ on ebay.
This is a really great station used by handy repair shops among the whole world.
Cheers

Re: Is there a PCB pattern for infrared tach July 7 Servo?
Hi Grant
I used sprint layout. www.abacom-online.de/uk/html/sprint-layout.html
I dont know if that is a popular choice over the ocean, in Europe it is, mostly used by amateurs like me.
I have a real problem with the UI of Eagle,...
There is a possibility to export the layout in gerber, bitm...

Dear Stephen
You wrote: "The parallel connection of L1 and L2 is also not good practice. If they are not well matched and at the same temperature, one of them will conduct more current than the other, resulting in unbalanced light output between them. A series connection would be better. &quo...

Re: Problems with IR Tachometer
Dear Stephen
That makes really sense !!! I will try this out as soon as I am home. Not only pin 1 and 2 was used twice but also pin 15 (connected to f of the 7seg)! Pin15 has worried me most. This somehow did not look right. Interesting though, when switching on the unit displays 001 !!! So I will...

Re: Problems with IR Tachometer
Dear Stephen
I could get rid of the oscillation using a more stabilized power supply ( a 9V battery ;-).
There is another problem though as you mention, the displayed data is wrong. Somehow I think there is an error in the connection between the 7 Seg. display and the driver ICs. The aiming Led ...

Re: Is there a PCB pattern for infrared tach July 7 Servo?
Hi Grant
I routed a pcb, but the tach does not work correctly in the moment, so I suggest there is an error in the circuit diagram. I use smd and dil parts in my routing ( as I had found them in my toolbox) so if you are interested I can mail you the layout. But be warned it does not jet work corr...

Problems with IR Tachometer
Hi
Has anyone built the IR Tachometer from the Bill Donofrio Article in the July Servo Magazine ?
I have built it, but there are problems. The circuit starts oscillating and so the readout is corrupted. I could not find any errors on my routing so I suspect there is one in the schema.
You can ...
