Thanks you everybody for the replies. I have found a wide variety of information from here and searching deeper on the web. It looks like the amount of power varies highly depending on the gauge of wire and the length. I have seen some that run on 2 D size batteries and some that use a 24v 10 amp su...

I would like to build my own hot knife or hot wire cutter. The commercial ones have a power supply box with a transformer and either a dial or multi position switch to vary the output voltage. They work by running a voltage across Nichrome wire some are stainless but might have Nicrome wire inside.<...

I am in need of a step up transformer. I need to up AC line by two amounts (2 secondaries) if line voltage is 120, I need 135 & 150. It will be used for small motors and so needs to handle up to 3 amp draw for a half second and run at about 1 amp continuos.<p>I would like it to be as small as possib...
