A flashlight with 50 Farad capacitors? For who - King Kong? A 50 Farad capacitor is going to set you back $200 to $400 each and it looks like they weigh 10-20 lbs a piece!

If you're already used to programming in PBasic, I'd switch to SX/B - which Parallax offers as a free download. An SX processor (a PIC clone running at a faster clock rate) running at 75 MIPS will cost you $3.50 http://www.parallax.com/sx/index.asp . A development board will cost you $10 and the SX-...

Robert,

These prototype boards look identical to the Radio Shack versions - and they're cheaper (I haven't tried them myself):

Check the trimmer mfg's web site for instructions on how to change the batteries. Due to government regulations - they're required to post instructions on how to dispose of rechargeable batteries in their devices.

A Basic Stamp and a PIC aren't the same thing. A Basic Stamp has an on-board voltage regulator, crystal, Microcontroller, EEPROM and a RS232 serial to TTL converter circuit. A PIC is just a Microcontroller. If you want something less expensive than a Stamp then check out the Parallax SX processor wi...

How about a simpler solution - wireless video camera mounted on the kart, and wireless receiver and a pair of walkie talkies.

Re: 800+ holes x3

My prices assume you'll need to buy a box of photo paper ($10), and a set of tungsten carbide drill bits ($10), a bottle of etchant ($7) and some PCB laminate ($3). It typically takes me 3-4 hours to image, touchup, etch, clean and drill 1 PC board.

Re: 800+ holes x3

The real question is how much time do you want to spend imaging, etching and drilling the PCB's? In my experience, you'll probably spend 10-15 hours to build 3 PCB's and it will probably cost $30 in materials (PCB laminate, photo paper, etchent and drill bits). By comparison, www.batchpcb.com will c...

Re: Non Existent Items

Hmm, it seems most of the popular items listed on HSC Electronic Supply's advertisement in Nuts and Volts never seems to be available. Case in point, I got the January issue today and saw a Sharp Color 10.4 inch LCD P/N 20784 for $14.95. I did a search on their web site - it doesn't exist. I've trie...

Re: LOL, parallax customers astounded by low quality

From the Parallax forum's:
Dear SXers: Today we launched a fabrication run for the SX Blitz (our SX programmer, sans debug). We decided to bring it back to our customers for the following reasons:
* Promotion for the Parallax SX product line * Low-cost entry point for experimenters and educatio...
