Electronic Component Store ?

I am looking for a NON-Mail Order store that carries a decent selection of electronic components that is NOT Radio Shack.
I try to order things online but once in a while I need to get something same day.

I live in the Philadelphia, PA area.

Thank you,

Boris.

Re: How does drill variable speed work?

I am building a motor controller capable of handling instantenous current of up to 120amps, ~ 40amp continuous (Dewalt Drill Motor). Since the mechanical part of the project is already complete I wanted to test it using some simple way of controlling motor speeds.

How does drill variable speed work?

What component(s) are used to change the speed of a regular DC 12-24V cordless drill, as the trigger is pressed in?

Thank you,

Boris.

Re: Drill Motor Controller

Thank you for your replies. I am using DC motors so Triacs will not work for this applications. Regarding FETs or MOSFETs does the N and P pair (top and bottom of H-Bridge) have to have the same exact characteristics? Obviously both should be able to handle the current but does it matter if they are...

Drill Motor Controller

I am using a 12v Dewalt Drill motor in my robotics project.
What are some good (cheap) bi-directinal motor controllers capable of handling ~30amps
Any circuits available?
Can I take a circuit for a 1-2amp motor controller and beef up all the components to handle 30amps?

Thank you,

Boris.

Shafts for DC motors

I am looking for a shaft that is:
5/16" Double D (slotted on two sides) on one end and 1/2", 5/8" or 3/4" keyed on the other end (about 2-3" long)
Does anybody know if there is a place that makes them? Website?

Thank you,

Boris.

PIC and Image Acquisition / Processing.

know this might not be the perfect forum to ask this question. Do you guys know any website, guides that discuss image acquisition and processing using a PIC microcontroller. From the basics: How to interface the camera to the Microchip PIC Microcontroller (or any other microcontroller for that purp...

Robot Vision (image recognition)

For those who saw my earlier post "Senior Design Project Ideas". I think the search is over :) One of the college professors has an idea to build a robot that would gather tennis balls on a court. It sounds simple at 1st. The easiest would be to just make it travel in random directions until it hits...

Re: Senior Design Project (EE+ME)

Hello everybody, thank you for your replies. To answer some of your questions: >What are you into? I would say robotics does sound extremely interesting. Something to do with image recognition, target following (not sure how much Electrical Eng. and programming I'll have to learn to do this, might b...

Senior Design Project (EE+ME)

Hello everybody, I am a mechanical engineering student going into my senior year. We have to do a senior design project. A major thing stretching from fall to spring (9 months). For the project we have do develop or improve something. In order for the project to even get approved it cant be too easy...

Re: PCB made out of acrylic ?!?

It does not have to be acrylic. It has to be clear plastic material. I will have to do some research to find out which one can handle higher temperatures. I would like to avoid using 30gauge wire net. It will be almost impossible to glue the net onto the plastic so that all the lines are perfectly s...

Re: PCB made out of acrylic ?!?

I figured if i solder carefully and heat up just enough for solder to melt, acrylic is not going to be damaged, or very very little at that precise point (under neath the trace)...
Maybe I can find some lo-heat solder.
[ April 06, 2005: Message edited by: Borisw37 ]

PCB made out of acrylic ?!?

Hello everybody.
Does anybody know how (if at all possible) to make a simple PCB on acrylic. I basically need to somehow apply a layer of copper to a sheet of acrylic, then etch it.
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Boris
