Did you find it?
I think it is the June 2008 issue.

Re: UPS has to see AC before providing backup

What model UPS do you have? I have a couple of APC units from the 250/400/600 line. They were "orphaned" due to a hardware upgrade so I gave them a new home. I've never used them, but was able to obtain schematics at the time. A quick look suggests that a simulated "AC Fail" sign...

Re: ReUsing Power Wart Devicer Connectors

Way back when I needed a plug for my portable cassette player, Radio Shack had the right size. I just don't recall what size it is. They weren't part of the Adaptaplug sets, but were packaged in pairs. Places like All Electronics, Marlin P. Jones, or BG Micro often have good discounts on wall warts ...

Re: WHERE ARE THEY?

I believe you're thinking of Popular Electronics. If I recall correctly, this was back in the mid-80's when Ziff-Davis still owned PE. It then folded, much of the editorial staff founded the new "Modern Electronics" magazine, and Gernsback later revived PE as sort of a slightly-less-techni...

Re: 4 bulb trick and...........

Couldn't get it to work? Do you mean GSview also?
I open the pdf in GSview, select Convert from the File pulldown, select the format and resolution, and the pages to convert. Click OK and then enter the output file details (name & location). Done.

There is a way... you need Ghostscript. GSview32.exe will let you save virtually any pdf as a common graphics file.

Re: Starting a project

But I'm beginning to wonder if I should be designing this around the solar cell instead of the LED???? Or should it be battery voltage??? I almost posted yesterday... will the circuit be designed for the power supply or the power supply for the circuit? I now reiterate my previous suggestion. Find ...

Re: Starting a project

You may want different amounts of light for the different areas. What you could do is get a 5 or 6 volt battery and a 100 ohm or larger potentiometer and test various LED output levels in those areas. Record the data to use in the design.

Re: Starting a project

3 amps times 8 hours is 24 amp/hours. That isn't truly realistic though. For example, if you want no less than 30% discharge then you would need a ~72Ah battery. That's for 1 night's use. You've chosen lithium-ion or nickel metal hydride cell technology. A quick look at Digi-Key showed some 12V 3.2A...

Re: Starting a project

Hmmm... is there something more about this application we should know? You say, "24 hour capacity in case of a cloudy day, no 110v back-up needed." Do you need a nightlight on a cloudy day? You can read the newspaper at 3AM with 12 LEDs. I was thinking this was a hallway/foyer/path to the ...

Re: Starting a project

Sure! Probably the first step would be to determine how much light and run time you want, and choose the LED(s). White LEDs will brighten the path, but red will be easier on sleepy eyes.

Re: things goin' on at RS

Yeah, y'all are reminding me of the small town Sears catalog stores. An old idea new again?
Wasn't the RS service with its own catalog called TechAmerica? I still have a catalog or two around here. It lasted a few years
in the late 90s but succumbed to the web and RS's move to cell phones.
