Re: National Debt
No wonder we are screwed. It is that kind of thinking that is sending this country down the drain. When the taxes become too high we will just stop paying and it wont be us who are screwed.
[ May 15, 2005: Message edited by: wolfcreek ]

Re: National Debt
No the problem is not whether social security is on the budget or not. The money has always been removed since FDR and used in the general fund. It was not till the 80's that the theft was put on the books. It has always been a ponsi scheme and always will be.
I would be for ending social security...

Re: National Debt
The real scary part is that about 55% of the budget is tranfer payments to things such as social security, welfare, etc and growing. The defense dept get a relatively small piece of the pie for waht they are required to accomplish. In the 2004 budget the post office got between 1/4 and 1/3 what the ...

Re: Solar panel sleight of hand
So Chris I suppose you do not buy tires for your car that have F.E.T. nn them, or buy gas or have a phone or anything. You do realize that most of the debt is owned by US citizens and businesses in the form of treasury bonds. Fortunately there is not federal tax on the tinfoil you make your hats out...

Re: Solar panel sleight of hand
So according to your logic when you shop at the store you are contributing to the national debt. The national debt is caused only by on thing --government spending more money than it takes in in taxes. Imports and exports have no bearing on the national debt.
I also dont see how solar will help t...

Re: Solar panel sleight of hand
Yes there is little understanding of economics here. The trade deficit is not financed by the govenment. A trade deficit is when net exports are less than net imports. A budget deficit is when govenment spending exeeds tax revenues. National debt occurs when deficit spending is practiced--it has not...

Re: Solar panel sleight of hand
Still has nothing to do with national debt--perhaps with the trade deficit but not national debt.

Re: Solar panel sleight of hand
As far as bird kills due to wind turbines the facts prove this to be untrue. A recent study showed yearly that: 130 to 160 million are killed by power lines 60 to 90 million killed by autos 500 million to 1 billion killed by collisions with buildings, signs, etc. It is estimated that wind turbines w...

Re: Solar panel sleight of hand
Wind energy has almost no ecological drawbacks and one of the newer wind turbines will produce 750 Kw from a 10 mph wind. Wind is the only viable renewable electrical source for now or the near future.

Re: Solar panel sleight of hand
The cost of two utility poles would not amount to much in solar panels. We regularly buy utility poles for less than $200 each. The 160 watt solar panel I bought last year cost $600. With six bateries it can produce 1 amp at 24 volts 24 hours per day.

Re: Solar cells down to details...
Depending on the type of substrate and thickness of the substrate it takes anywhere from 3 to 8 years to payback the amount of energy used to create a solar cell. This does not include any other factors such as transportation, inverters, batteries etc. This is assuming the cells are located where th...

Re: Using Inverters with Auto Batteries
Don't use car batteries. They are not meant for deep cycle use. Get a couple of 100+ amp hour rated marine/deep cyle batterries from Wal-mart. You should be able to get them for 60-70 a piece.
