The cradle nomaly only uses an AC adapter. I am trying to make a 12V DC to 5V DC 1.5 Amp power adapter for the car.

Also, when I test the AC adapter with my multimeter. I get 5V and 5 Amps instead of the 1.5 Amps it says it outputs. Is that normal? I was wondering if the device only draws 1.5 amps maybe.

There are other connectors on the cradle. You are correct, there is a USB, Line-in, and Line-out to go with the power-in. I think this thing can charge via USB, but I haven't been able to confirm that. Unfortunately when I tried to use the miniUSB cell phone car charger with it (for my Audiovox SMT ...

I agree about leaving it on all of the time. Much easier on the system. Should improve the life. However, you may not be that concerned with the life of that older computer; a failure could lead to an upgrade
