Re: Forum Update! Secure!

Thanks for the efforts. To refer about the past, searched a guessy term : "2014" ; and showed among results : ----> https://forum.nutsvolts.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=17208&hilit=2014 Which makes me think the forum software is/was capable of image attachments and such was disabled . Re: T & L Publications Forum Revamp!

Thank you for your good intentions.

On your opening for suggestions, I would ask for periodical presence of the personnel in charge of this forum site, or a working way to report anomalies.

Previous forums you were in...

Nothing of importance, just to help remember the history of defunct forums...
I remember Microsoft groups, Popular electronics, Electronics Now as forums some of us frequented (or resided in) since middle 90's.
Can you refresh the sequence or others since the early times ?

Re: Forum FAQ (check here before you ask please!) :)

Who is in charge of this forum maintenance ? Where do we have to send a telegram or letter to report malfunctioning ?

Re: TV lacking remote control...

... fix the power supply and put it in your Rec-Room, Bed Room, or maybe use it as your computer's monitor... Got a couple of largish junked TVs with cracked screen... Removed the display and boards; left the white diffuser and backlights. They are hanging flush in the ceiling giving very go...

Re: TV lacking remote control...

Yes, I did cycle power as first action, did not mention that.
Today, did not respond to remote again. Turned on with panel button, and after a while, obeyed the remote. Intermittent something. Perhaps I will end beating Murphy this time as cannot probe any circuit in it.

TV lacking remote control...

Hi. Today, my TV refused to turn on with the remote. Checked/replaced its AAAs; nothing. Confirmed operation with button controls. Works. Confirmed the remote and a second remote emitting OK with a camera. Dismantled it, marked the test points to test voltages/signals, and found it is built to not b...

Re: Beheaded fatty nail as soldering tip...

Hi Al. How much erosion brass, bronze tips show compared to copper ? With an iron nail, erosion should be minimal, stiffness great, But of course slow heat conductivity that calls for fatter and shorter tips to approach a reasonable performance in certain uses. Remember trying a gold clad tip when l...

Re: Beheaded fatty nail as soldering tip...

That grounding wire... Good ! A foot will make maaany years of tips. Iron cladding not needed for longevity at that price, like vintage tips were, plain copper. Thank you. These used to be at the 99 cent store. Not any more. And no RadioShacks in 100miles. ----> https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3-pcs...

Re: Beheaded fatty nail as soldering tip...

Yes, the bare solid copper tip has to work well, but where did you find/get/source pieces 4mm diameter solid copper wire ? Less diametre is not stiff enough.

I will have to check the nearby metal supply store for 4mm copper rods...

Beheaded fatty nail as soldering tip...

 Very cheap soldering pencils use a tip that is nothing else than a rod held by a set screw. A proper tip has a copper core and iron plated. For not precision temperature work, like salvaging components off boards, what is the inconvenient on using a nail properly ground to chisel shape tip ?...
