NewZ2000, I worked in the coin-op industry for a while. Happ Controls is indeed a good company. Here's another, a link to Competitive Products, showing a coin mech. Notice that these things can take US quarters OR tokens. You would not want the one for tokens... http://www.competitiveproducts.com/co...

Mini-Plug Problem

MiniPlug Problem: First mini-plug nightmare: I know this is going to sound low-tech and it is.. But I have had some bad luck lately with 2.5 mm and 3.5 mm phone plugs/jacks. My gym owner has a 900 MHZ wireless phone that he uses all the time. It came from Radio Shack, but seems to work quite well fo...

Re: 120 v0lt pm dc motor

Zotdoc, How big is this motor? Diameter, length, shaft size? And are the brushes on the back end, away from the shaft? I am looking for a PM motor to use on a doggie dryer -- known as a "cage dryer". Mine is an old one made by Double-K (Greece). Model: Challenger 550. They no longer suppor...

Re: Motor Problem

Jwax: I talked to a man at a motor repair/rebuild shop. He said they haven't worked washing machine motors in years. And it appeared that this one is in some way pressed together, not bolted. I think that we are in the age of throw-away motors just like throw-away everything else... UGH! :) Stephen ...

Re: Motor Problem

OK.. Thought you guys would want to know the final outcome on this one.. Stephen had some really good points, and had or came closest to having the right answer. 1. I stated that the motor spins, with just armature current. 2. I stated that the brushes are worn and in need of replacement. 3. In test...

Re: Motor Problem

Well, I can't check it tonight. I took it back to him. I told him I do think it is defective. You mention "ground" a lot. When I tested this motor on the bench I did not have the case grounded. (shame on me!) But I do have a GFCI on the line to all of my outlets on my workbench. So, I am j...

Re: Motor Problem

Thanks Chris.

I did check between armature and field terminals, but did not think to check to the motor case.

Do you think that field should be in series with the armature? In shunt (parallel) the current goes so high that it pops a 15 amp fuse on my test panel..

Motor Problem

I am not a motor expert. Hoping that someone who visits may work on motors enough to know an answer to this question.. I am helping a friend who has a problem with his front loading washer. I believe an ASCO Model 8005. The motor does not run at all when connected to the washer. Here is the info on ...

Re: Caller ID Privacy Manager

John Brown:
Quote: Here in the UK the CID is sent before the first ring. Although it is preceded by a line reversal. Assuming you have some sort of micro involved, you could save the bit stream and then re-modulate it to send it to the selected phone. The modulation part should be much easier that...

Re: Caller ID Privacy Manager

Jimandy:
I think you've got a good idea there. I have a timing chart from Motorola for their MC145447. The chip may be old, but the timing of signals remain the same. It appears that if you could set up a timer (triggered from the first ring cycle) to operate a relay, you could build it with a pot...

Re: Caller ID Privacy Manager

Thanks Matt, Jimandy, and Kurt:
Matt: Thanks for the link. Those PIC related projects look interesting. I thought that what I wanted to do could be done with a PIC.. I just don't recall having seen any projects in N&V about caller ID using a PIC. I have ALL issues from the very first one.
...

Re: Caller ID Privacy Manager

Dale Y: I didn't explain myself very well as to what I really would want do. You are right about the 1200 baud phase shift modulated signal. I would use a decoder chip to handle that part. But to use the data, display, store, etc. would require a microprocessor.
Jimandy: I have a "round tuit...

Caller ID Privacy Manager

I've seen units available on the market that will decode the caller ID and route incoming calls to an answering set, ring the phones, or disallow a call.. I am wondering if anyone has been working on a home brew version of the same thing, perhaps using a PIC? I'll attempt to add a link here.
web ...
