Hello, I’m somewhat versed on hyperacusis/ tinnitus because my wife has both due to a car accident a few years ago (airbags going off in a closed vehicle). I’m not an acoustical expert, only an engineer, but these are my thoughts: Firstly, my wife treats herself with ear buds that generate white...

What a coincidence, just last week I looked into the cause of the 60hz hum in my Altec ACS495 subwoofer. This came with an old WIN98SE Dell desktop, and they sounded great for a few years. Then I upgraded to XP, and there was no driver for them, so I lost the GUI for them, but I continued to use the...

7805 voltage regulator
I'm looking at a circuit used in a treadmill. There's a 7805 with the center (ground lead) that is clipped off and not connected. Why is this 7805 used this way? I recall long ago that this is configured as a current limiter, but I could be wrong.....Could someone get me up to speed on this? Thanks,...

N&V High-side switch
The high-side switch depicted in the May 2006 edition of N&V, page 27 doesn't seem to work on my Electronics Workbench simulator. There's must be a typo. What's wrong with that circuit? I need a high-side switch to activate a reset line going to a reset pin of MCU, so load is minimal. Thanks, Ke...

Thanks for the reply, Philba. I have a tube of CD4049's and no CD4011's. I can understand if the circuit is a prototype and Radio Shack is closed and it's late at night and you don't have the proper logic components so you make a substitution, but this circuit is offered as a kit in production. Henc...

CD4011 vs. CD4049
I'm building a circuit where the author uses a CD4011 Quad NAND gate as an inverting buffer between a MAX 232 and a 2N7000 N-ch MOSFET . Both inputs to the NAND gate is actually one lead, split to go to both inputs. Can I safely use an inverting buffer CD4049 (with the lead to one input) in it's pla...

Re: HELP! Old Pro-2006 INTERFACE
Hi Tom, I've read N&V for a bazillion years and the only interface I can remember being covered is the "Programitt" interface to program a scanner that had the memory upgrade. Google "programitt" and you'll find it. However, this doesn't look like that interface. It sort of l...
