Re: question about inverters

I have seen the RS inverters and they look a little lite in the pants to me. They have a heavy duty price, but that's about all. In my solar power supply i use a Rally 600W inverter and operate 6 60W fixtures. The inverter has a surge capacity of 1200W. I found the inverter at Wal-Mart and it's been...

RADIONE......

Back in the January 1994 issue of Nuts & Volts, there was an article on the Radione short wave receiver based on a Tesla design. Does anyone have any information on where to get it in kit form , of if the seller is still around. As i recall, the entire kit could be purchased for around thirty do...

Re: High Voltage

My rods were about 18in. long and the arc travels to the top and jumps off. The max. length of the spark is close to an inch and quarter or so.

Re: High Voltage

I used an old surplus neon sign transformer(10kv)and it worked very well ,with a couple of of coat-hangers that I had on hand. No. 10 or 12 guage bare copper wire also did a good job.

Re: How can I charge disposable alkaline batteries?

You have to be very carefull when you try to re-charge any type of common Alkaline battery. They are not vented and can explode if the charging process is not controlled. At the very least, they will leak and damage your equipment. I have even seen the re-chargable RAY-O-VAC batteries leak after a fe...

Re: Re-broadcast FM Radio?

I had the same problem several years ago. I solved it with a small FM Stereo transmitter used as a repeater on an un-used part of the FM dial. In one part of the metal building we had a large window where the outside signals would come in strong. We set the transmitter up there with a center tapped ...

Re: capacitor types

Tubes don't become leaky. The microphonic sound is caused by the tube elements becoming loose causing the effect combined with the heat from the tube. Only semiconductors become leaky.

Re: Zapped ROM cards

It's not like the service providers and equipment mfg.s didn't know this was coming. The same system failed in overseas use . It was predicted the same thing would happen here too. The old c-band videocypher system was hacked before it really got going and hackers only lost interest when DSS came al...

Re: capacitor types

I agree with you Gregg..the tube amps have a sound quality that solid state amps can't match. Just the fact that there clean makes them sound a little harsh for many peoples taste. Even with filters it's hard to get a good mellow sound out of them. The tubes do have good sound.

Re: 1968 Bronco Temp Guage

Wayne, i had the same thing happen on my 73 MachI. The gauge tested ok as did the sending unit. My problem was the regulator which feeds pulses of current to the gauge. If it stops working, your gauge will appear dead. The sending unit just supplies a ground for the gauge,so if you have a new gauge a...

Re: LED tail light bulbs

If you could find some like they use on 18 wheelers now days your problem would be solved. We have several trailers at the place i work which now use LED tail lights and turn signals and the brightness is very good. Again, they may be a little expensive, but they look great when illuminated.

Re: Home Energy - Generator Intertie?

The trend now is to use solar power to return power to the grid. Many people use this to make their meters run backward during the day when there at work and use little electricity. Most el-co's don't know about this so it could be a problem unless you use a auto-disconnect when the grid goes down. ...

Re: Caps

A electro-static field like the one in a capacitor dilectric, is a stationary field, unlike a magnetic field, which is a moving field unless it is from a permanent source. All fields are not purely magnetic. An electro- magetic field as defined moves or changes intensity.....a static field is one tha...

Re: Caps

Actually, there is not a magnetic field involved in a capacitors operation. It's an electro-static field. This field has little relationship to magnetic fields such as found in inductors. DC circuits use blocking caps. to stop a DC voltage while permitting a AC signal to pass, such as in audio circui...
