dont know if this is what you are looking for but texas instruments ic search lists 1242n as a pwm controller with power factor corrector. it is an obsolete chip but you can the data sheets.<p>good luck

Testing Ballasts

I have a ballast from a Catalina Dana#3700 circline magnifying desklamp that i need to test to see if it is good. The number on the ballast is HJ17 and it has five pins which are soldered directly to a pc board. The circline fluorescent light is 22 watts.
