Desiccant ?

Where is a good place to get desiccant? Can you buy the material cheap, and make your own packages? What is a good way to drive out the moisture, so they can be used again? Thanks

Amperage, DC vs. AC

I am planning on running DC through a standard house type circuit breaker. How much will the current carrying capacity go up because of the DC over AC? There are some numbers available comparing DC to AC when working with current capacity of wires, do those same ratios work with breakers? Example, w...

When you were testing using induction, what frequency were you using? If you were using 60 cycle, I would suggest you try a higher frequency; it should increase coupling, and therefore efficiency. With the inside self-righting capability, you will know where the inside coil is, so position the drive...

Hey, guys, I’m just looking for some thoughts on how to discourage the neighbors’ dog from barking, hour after hour for apparently no reason. Don’t want to “hurtâ€

Well, I don’t want to hit him with something that is going to cause pain, or something bad. I hope to cause a little discomfort for a few seconds at the time of barking. Just enough to get his attention, and maybe he will connect the discomfort with excessive barking. I figured I would have a remo...

Yes, I have talked to the owners. Their basic comment is, no, their dog does not bark, it must be the other neighbors dog. (Back to my neighbor) The dog also does a lot of barking when they are home. Their comment then is that they don’t hear it. ( They are quite elderly, and normally have the TV ...

Yes, there are a lot of piezeos out there, however I cannot find any that are rated for the type of power it sounds like I need. Those that are about an inch or inch and a half in Dia, I don’t think is what I need. But then I may be wrong about what I really need. When I hear speaker, I think abou...

It appears like I need to get a piezoelectric speaker. Any suggestions from anyone about where to get one? I have looked through some catalogs, but no luck.

Barking Dog

I read what I could find in history on barking dog problems, and it appears nothing recently. What are the latest updates on systems? Where is a good source of transducers, like speakers or piezo units for the job? Which is the best? My problem is almost every afternoon, the owners are gone for abou...

A few months ago, I had a project where I was pulling heavy current from the electrical system, and was concerned about alternator capabilities. I asked several different auto mechanics, and alternator rebuild houses, and basically was told the same story. The ratings on an alternator are peak and f...

SMT, getting started

I have intentionally steered clear of working with SMTs, and now that bit me. I have a project where I must use SMT, and I know next to nothing about it. I need to design the circuit, do the layout, and build boards. - - - Any suggestions on how to get up to speed in a hurry? Somewhere it seems I sa...

Thanks for all the inputs, everyone. I have been gone for several days, so missed a lot of the action. For this application I think I will use a combination of ideas. If I break the load into two sections with a R & C, the critical steady load and the variable load, along with your inputs, I thi...

A switcher sounds like too much for what is needed. I need many of them, so money is critical. I have very little room. The whole system will be running on micro-amps, so just the control circuits in a switcher, at first, sounds undoable. ---- Thanks, and please keep all ideas coming.

Hi Dacflyer -- This may be too late, but possibly another idea to look at. I haven’t tried it, but a quick thought and scribbles on paper look like it might be worth trying. The only requirement appears that the Pos load always has to be greater than the Neg. load. ------- Take your 12 volt supply...

MrAl -- Input maximum of about 10 volts, and output in the 4 to 5 volt area. Not critical, but has to stay constant with input dropping as the batteries age, and has to stay solid with changing load.
