There are several solutions to this problem that are commercially available. C&H Electronics sells a electronic ignition conversion for R/C aircraft use. Search the internet for model airplane engine information, repost this question on a R/C airplane news group.

Adjustable 24V DC-DC converter
Hi, I wonder if anybody had any ideas for buillding a 24V input DC-DC converter, with an adjustable output voltage 6-20 volts, max output current 5A. I want to power a notebook computer (20V) from a 24V battery, but I have some other uses too that would require different output voltages. Probably ne...
