Re: Repairing laptop computer power supplies

Thanks for the suggestions.<p>This link goes to a site that has units which appear physically similar to mine: http://www.toshibaacadapter.com. Choose a unit, select "More Details", then enlarge the picture to see the assembly more clearly. There is a detachable 6 foot line cord which supp...

Repairing laptop computer power supplies

Our school has a number of power supplies for laptop computers that are out of service because the DC output wire has frayed or broken at the end of the strain relief at the power pack. Electrically, they're still good. The power packs are sealed plastic units (perhaps 4" x 2" x 1 1/2"...

One final observation....<p>When things go south (as they inevitably will): V-belts slip, chains break stuff. How's your budget?<p>PS: I love the Fenners on my table saw!!

Re: How to test for hot (positive) wire?

Don't mean to beat up this topic, but....<p>Many respondents have told you true stuff, and Dean gave you lots of really practical advice. But I sense that your question may be a bit more fundamental. Please forgive me if I go back too far.<p>In household AC service, we talk about a "hot" w...

Oh, and I forgot.... If you really care about your reader, please go to Vincent Flanders' page www.websitesthatsuck.com . He's pretty plain about what people love and what egotistic web windbags inflict on their populace.

Re: Web Site Building

I agree that Dreamweaver is better than FrontPage, but you can still do a lot of fine work with FP. In fact, you can do a lot of fine work with Notepad if you are suitably motivated. A couple of reference sites that I like include htmldog.com and webmonkey.com. Webmonkey is about to take the big rid...

Re: Out = Out + In

The program code looks like it will do what you say you want.<p>Two questions/observations:<p>1.) Is there a way you can "prove" the speed of the code and make sure that the code will execute sufficiently fast to handle the data rate? You said nothing about the capability of your platform....

Re: 110 v a.c. annunciator

Except for the "pleasant sounding" part, I've been doing that for years with some X-10 based toys. A motion sensor flood light by the garage sends an X-10 signal to a receiver in the house whenever it turns on. Receivers are available with screw terminals that can be used to trigger an ext...

Not sure why you experienced that problem. Maybe someone with more circuit or telephone know-how can help more. Here, in imprecise terms, is what should be going on.<p>The Telco supplies a DC voltage (they call it "battery") of around -48V to your telset. The two lines have a capacitor in ...

Cool. Thanks! I can think of a number of ways to employ that approach to defuse the math/graphing phobias that some of these kids have.

Re: Need ideas for variable sampling rates.

Thanks for the tips on the 4-trace plugins. I'll add those to my "wish list".<p>I appreciate the further discussion on signal sampling and understand the points. What I'm wondering now is how much I need to worry about pre-filtering higher freqs and post-filtering for ripple. I'm dealing w...

Re: Need ideas for variable sampling rates.

Thanks for the thoughts! I've done the connect-the-dots thing. Some kids get it, some don't. Maybe I need to rethink my presentation.<p> Re 3 traces: I've got an old Tek 549, so there's two traces. Maybe I'll have to get out to the flea markets for that freq counter.<p> Thanks also for "Nyquist...

Re: Need ideas for variable sampling rates.

Thanks for the reply and the diagram. If I understand correctly, this would be a "real time" demo. Twist R2 and the sound goes from ugly to pretty. Right? The only "unknown" would be the actual sampling rate, but I could stick a 'scope on lead 3 of the 555 so they could see the r...
