Great Stuff, Thanks.
My experience falls right in line with what you said...shorter, higher current, pulses dont seem to give me much brighter flashes.

Re: how to ? schematic to pc board
So what does putting in the schematic do for you?
Let me get this straight...you put in the schematic and then you put in the PCB layout. Then the software will automatically check to make sure you have all your connections correct?
N9AOK

Re: how to ? schematic to pc board
OK, well, I guess I was expecting it to automatially lay it out for me..LOL At least make sure that I make all the connections.
I did'nt see how that would work if it does do that.
I did see the "link schematic". Guess I just need to go a bit farther..or maybe I just expected too much...

Re: how to ? schematic to pc board
Humm, I tried pcbexpress software and drew my shematic...that worked well.
I dont see how to move from schematic to PCB layout?
Is there a menu item I missed?
N9AOK

Re: White LED strobe
I think I got pretty good stop motion with an ON time of 8 to 15msec ..beyond that and you would see movment of an object while the LED was ON.
If you really need less ON time, you would probably really need to dump the current through them....(current that I didn't have available easily with a 9...

Here's my circuit if anyones interested..nothing sophisticated. Using a 555 as others here suggested.
http://www.homefires.us/bluemarble/PAGE ... /UVSTROBE/

Re: White LED strobe
I tried this with UV LED's this year for halloween and had some success. Although, its hard to judge brightness due to the light being UV instead of WHITE I was able to use a duty cycle of about 10 to 20% with an on current of about 100ma. These have run for weeks without fail (yet).
I have run m...

Re: Stamp vs PIC microcomputers
Funny how silent everyone is on AVR microcontroller chips. I took a look and thought it looked like the easiest to program, and cheapest to get into. I've not taken the big step yet and I was hoping to find and AVR bandwagon someplace on the NET to get information but there's really a dearth of info...

Re: LED fading when driven by 4017
I'm experimenting with an LED now and I can get light out from about .5ma up!! with a fairly linear light ouput.
My voltage range is from 6.5V to 4 volts to go from 20ma to 1ma
I'm using a 3.8V LED with a 47ohm Resistor in line.
Todd

Re: Reverse Polarity on 555 timer???
I'm wanting to keep the strobing action (same rate) but slowly fade it in and out.
In the interest of saving battery I would be more inclined to drive the base to a "more off" state for the fade
OK, This is what I'm thinking...Does this have merit? My problem is to first replace the ba...

Re: Reverse Polarity on 555 timer???
Thanks for you help... I've not used mosfets for anything yet so they arent' on my radar screen (not till now anyway).
I like this idea too. I'll check that option out too. Are Mosfets expensive?
Todd

quote:<...

Re: Reverse Polarity on 555 timer???
Thanks, this is a Great idea.
Anyone have an idea on how to make this circuit Fade in and out? I was trying to figure out a way to apply a triangle wave to the base of the transistor (superimposed onto the strobe action). I can get a triangle wave wtih op amps but how can I superimposed (mix) that...

Re: Reverse Polarity on 555 timer???
This is the timer I was looking at
TS3V555IN
http://www.mouser.com/index.cfm?handler=displayproduct&lstdispproductid=320941
Oh, it really is a bummer when you open up your package of timer you just bought to find out you got little tiny SMT versions instead of the nice big DIPs I really ...
