Re: The right relay
This is just a status report. The dry wallers are not done yet and appears that this electronic part of the house will not be installed by me for a couple of months. The solution will be a cheap thermostat mounted near the ceiling operating two relays.
The relays I think will be used are listed i...

The right relay
I want to use a thermostat ( using 12 to 16 volts) as a switch to turn on a relay to operate a 110 volt 0.6 amp fan. Which of the following relays would be most reliable and trouble free?
12 VDC, 3PST N.O. RELAY, 30 AMP http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=search&item=R...

Re: Cooling fan thermostat
The dry wallers are about 75% done installing the sheets. There are 14 Gage wires from the two fan switches that run back near the thermostat location. Today I ran some 14 gage wire from a light box back to a location near the thermostat to provide power for a transformer.
The thermostat will be a...

Re: Cooling fan thermostat
Thanks for all of the input. I still don't have a solution that I can install. jwax gave a site
http://www.pepiusa.com/
where I emailed the sales rep asking for a switch that would turn on at about 80 degrees F. The response was "We cannot provide a snap action with that low of a calibra...

Re: Cooling fan thermostat
I did not mention that some type of relay would be needed. I saw some inline thermostats on the internet but they were for heating not cooling.

Cooling fan thermostat
I want to install a thermostat that will turn on a small fan to blow air to the downstairs. I want to put the thermostat at the top of the stair well near the ceiling. This will be for winter time use and turn on a fan to blow the warm air back down stairs. This is an inline fan, 0.5 amps, in a 6&qu...

Re: Magnetic switch for widnow open
One of the problems installing the switches is that I need to install them now before the drywall is placed. The drywall will be 5/8 inch. One solution is to drill a 1' dia hole about 2" deep and place the switch in the hole then after the drywall is installed drill a hole and pull the switch o...

Re: Stray 110 voltage
The wire to the fountain is about 25 feet away from the junction and switch. Today I checked the voltage at the fountain pump using two digital multi-meters and a 30 yr old Radio Shack analog volt-ohm meter that is the size of a pack of cigarets.
With the switch off, both digital meters read 1.3 ...

Magnetic switch for widnow open
I want to be able to tell when a window or door is open or closed in a house. I looked at Radio Shack magnetic switches that were 1/4 inch diameter but the magnet would open the switch about an inch away. I have 27 aluminum horizontal sliding widows and 7 doors.
I plan to make an led board indica...

Re: CATs and Home Depot.
I see that Cat5eCableguy.com. have TRT® CAT5E Shielded Cable. It seems to me shielded cable would be better??
I am in the process of building a new house and will "home run" the phone, tv, local area network, and video. Shielded cat 5e should work best for the phone and lan.

Stray 110 voltage
I have installed a 110 volt circuit in a new house that goes through a GFI receptacle then to a duplex switch box which then feeds to a some lights down stream. So the switch box as four circuits, power in from the GFI, power out to the downstream lights, switched outside light and switched fountain...

Re: 120 volt LED?
Thanks for your responses. I went to the local electrical supply store two weeks ago and ordered a Leviton switch 1203-PL which has a pilot light. I don't have the switches yet but they should work OK.

120 volt LED?
I want to use a three-way 120 volt switch for an evaporative cooler and an LED to indicate if the power is on. This is in a two story house and the three way swtitch would power the cooler on or off from downstairs or upstairs. The rotary switch would be down stairs. Is there a 120 volt LED that wou...
