I've heard of this before. I'm with the person who posted this on the feedback...
wow that's amazing ... even with 'dirt cheap labor', you'd think the cost of assembling one of those would be greater than just making the real deal.

BGA's for DIY

Does anyone have any experience with BGA chips? I am looking at using a 16 pin BGA, but wondering how to mount it on a PCB. My first thought was to "dead-bug" it. Lay it on its back, glue it down to the PCB, and run hookup wire to the legs. My next thought was to solder some cut off resist...

patch cord supplier

I am looking for a source for short (4-6 inch) 3.5mm male to male stereo patch cords. I can find 6 foot ones and longer really cheap, but can only find onesies or twosies of the shorter ones. Surely there is a distributor where I can find these in quantities of 25 each or so. I've searched Newark,Di...

I still had one of those catalogs and tried to call several months ago with an order for something I couldn't find elsewhere. As soon as I told the "operator/clerk/sales assistant" the first three digits of the part number, she rudely cut me off and said that they had no such parts. Didn't...

I use Newark Electronics (They dropped the "In One") and Digi-Key for small orders, but also use Garrett Electronics quite a bit for small quantities as well. Garrett mostly has surface mount stuff... but they have a great selection that is usually stocked, or else low lead times.

I did a quick look through some catalogs with no results. You may have some luck with Dialight. Their LEDs only go to 230VAC in the Newark catalog, but Newark doesn't carry everything that they offer. Would neon be acceptable? That might be easier and cheaper - not that I have looked into it! Best o...

Same here. My first thought was to get some free sample Samtec headers and use mini-latch pins. Then I realized that the mini-latch pin crimper I have here at work (and take for granted) costs a pretty penny! I would just solder them to the board as well. Regards, Dave

Hi Dean, I completely agree with you. I just thought I would throw that method out there for general info. In many (other) cases it can be a practical, safe, and simple way to get a reading. I should have added the details you mentioned concerning that particular circuit - to clarify. Regards, Dave

I'll bet the star-gazers appreciate that as well! That is one thing I enjoyed about Fort Myers, FL on my last vacation. They have a law to keep lights on the beach at a minimum. I guess the sea turtles get confused, thinking the lights are the "moon". Well that is stretching the topic enou...

Not necessarily a recommendation for this usage, but still on topic. One of my favorite cheap ways of measuring current is to insert a one ohm resistor in line. Then run leads from each side of the resistor up to a cheap voltmeter. Ohms law makes it real easy to convert the voltage drop to an ampera...
